My disc tray will not stay close. I called microsoft and they said that since my game is not under warranty and I don't have the 3 red lights, I would have to pay 100.00 dollars. I don't have a 100 dollars to give them for something that's there fault. If you know what I can do to fix this problem, please help.

my xbox 360 disc tray wont stay shut, if i press the disc tray button to close it, it closes, but only to reopen about a second later. the only way i can keep it shut is if i turn the 360 off, and then manually shut it, is there anyone that knows how to fix this?

my xbox 360 wont stay closed it just opens and closes as soon as i close it

  • Stickof92 Feb 10, 2009

It all started this afternoon, I tried opening my disk tray to play some COD5, but the tray refused to open. I had this problem before, so I pulled the old screwdriver out and opened her up with alot more force needed than the last few times (it's happened 2 or 3 times(but they opened and I placed a disk in and it was fine so long as it had a disk in it when it's turned off)).

So I managed to half open it and put and old DVD in it, then I closed it and tried opening it... no result >=(. I then did the same thing but I pulled it fully open and then turned it off. It stayed open up to the point where I turned it back on and hit the open tray button, it closed for about a second then opened again. This happens everytime I close it, be it with force, with the button on the console, or the icon on screen (if its there). I even tried closing it and powering it down, it just opened up a split second before turning fully off!

    Someone save me

It was the magnet in the disc trayIt helps to hold the disc in place, the adhesive wore off and the magnet came out just add a little glue all is good then.

  • Anonymous Sep 16, 2008

hello after hours of looking i came across something on youtube they helped allot, showing how to take your x-box apart and so forth my problem turned out to be a magnet that help hold the disc in place came loose and all i had to do was glue the darn thing back on and presto it worked, if this doesnt help you search youtube they might be able to help ya out or not. Any more questions email and Good Luck

My xbox does this, and there is a way to sort it temporarily if you're really desperate to start playing... All you need to do is insert the disk and as soon as the tray is closed tap (hit) the top of the xbox, this releases the spindle and it starts reading. I will be sending it back to MS before I cause too much more damage though.

SOURCE: Xbox 360 disk tray wont stay shut

My 360 is/was having a similar problem...my 360 would say "reading disc" then "open tray". Well since my system is only about 8 months old...I opted to send it in for repair. Its under warranty. My system is in route to be fixed as we speak. I would advise you to get yours registered too.

What do you do when your xbox won't read disks?

The main problem might be a big problem with the disk tray. There might be an faulty wire that has lost connection and if your disk wont event turn on, there might be a problem with the power supply that supplies the cd tray. If the disk opens and closes but doesnt read and wont say tray is in and keeps saying open tray, there might be a small fracture on some of the wires or there is something wrong with the motherboard of the xbox 360. The best way is to buy the warrenty now and send it to the xbox 360.

I turn on my xbox 360 and it says open tray and wont read disc

I have had this happen about 3 times. The first time was when i figured out how to fix it. The 2nd and 3rd were temporary.(Just needed to be turned off for a moment) You need to shut the console off for atleast 15 minutes 10 at the lowest with everthing unplugged. I mean the hard drive, memory unit, and all cables, and adapters. Then after 10-15 minutes plug everything in and DON'T PRESS the BUTTONS ON THE XBOX OR THE CONTROLLERS. Press the button to open the tray and take out the game or dvd and put in a different one. If this doesn't work do it all over again and then put in a different game or dvd not the previous ones and turn on the console the same but then a soon as you get the disc in and closed in shut it off then open the tray and wait till you are at the main menu go into any program so you can't see it is reading and close the tray. If that doesn't work contact the xbox support line. Really hope this works for you.

Disc Tray wont stay shut

A lot of people have this problem. Before you post, look around.

Anyway, I was able to call xbox 360 customer support. We did the troubleshooting but it still would not work, so they took my xbox 360 in for repairs. I would not try to fix it on your own because it might negate the warranty.

Cd tray on my 360 wont stay shut

either you will need it repaired or u can do it the cheap way and after the disc tray is shut put some tape over it and see if it will read it still. If not it will need to be repaired. It will only cost about $35 or free if you are still under warranty.

Tray wont stay shut

Listen to it when you put a disk in, does it sound like it is still trying to load?

More than likely it is not loading completely. The loading mechanism is out of time. Jumped a tooth on the loading gear.

Need to be re timed.
