This happens when the Gigabeat battery is run down too far. The only hope is to charge it with the AC charger.
If you don't have one, you can probably get something adequate. The standard adaptor is p/n ADP-15HH, 5V 3A output, center positive, take the unit with you and match the connector - I don't have a useful ruler handy.
If you do not have or cannot get an adaptor, try plugging the device into a USB port and wait at least a day, no kidding. If you can get the port to kick in fir high current, it may come back to life. My Ubuntu box has done it once, as a test.
You can only avoid this by charging the Gigabeat before it runs down too much. This is the real weakness of the Gigabeat, IMHO. That and the problems they get losing the firmware, but that's another topic.
You can sometimes find chargers on eBay, but you will have to pay a little...
i'm thinking the hard drive is messing up... you know when i dropped my gigabeat S30 it wasn't working n it was freezing and the video files weren't playing at all. it would freeze when i turn on or play video. then i turned it off and then back on using the battery switch. it said "contact the manufacturer for repair" with a yield sign. i really thought i killed it...but i still had my hopes high to fix it myself somehow n i really thought it was from the hard drive. so i took it in my hand and gave it a shake on my palm. like i actually hit it on my palm for once n then i turned it on and it worked =D fineee.... i was so happy n now it still works fine ;)
have you only been charging it with the usb cable?
try plugging it into a ac adaptor, (make sure the button is in the off position at the bottom)
and it should hopefully restart, then turn it to the on when it's loaded, and leave it plugged in till it's completely charged
I have a similar problem. I bought a new gigabeat U 2Gb in USA last week. It functioned properly in computers in USA. Now I'm in Argentina and I can't connect it to my computer (windows XP and windows media player 10 both in spanish)I tried install WMP 10 in english that came in the CD and the other two files windowsmedia10-kb902344-x86-intl.exe and windowsmedia10-kb895316-x86-enu.exe and in the last case apear this message: "Setup cannot update your WMP 10 files because the language installed on your system is different from the update language". Do you have any suggestion to solve my problem? Thanks
gosh! where did you drop the gigabeat?? It must have been a hard fall, or in an awkward position, because I have dropped mine on cement so many times, but it has a tiny scratch on the back and nothing else.
I once had to send my gigabeat in to the company for repairs. They did a pretty good job, fixed it, and sent it back. I would recommend sending it in, because your problem seems out of your control.
how did you reset the battery? i kinda have the same problem. but i lost my wall charger. i moved the battery switch on and off about 5 times and still nothing. please let me know email @ [email protected]
I called and they told me,i have the same problem, to just turn the battery switch ( bottom thing) off and charge it over night via wall outlet. hope it helps im trying it as i type so i wouldn't know...
