When I try to print, the paper advances about an inch and the printer starts to print. But the paper doesn't move forward. After stopping, the printer indicates a paper jam which is easily resolved by picking up the loose piece of paper from the back of the machine.

Hi, Sounds very much like the feed rollers are worn out. If you can get to them without too much trouble you can clean them up with regular rubbing alcohol and a rag which will help the paper feed. You might also want to try unpluging the printer and trying to roll the paper feed buttons by hand and seeing if a piece of paper will feed through without catching anywhere. If it does catch somewhere, then you may very well have a small piece of paper jammed in the paper path causing the jam. Good luck.

Based on the symptoms you described, it sounds like there may be a timing issue with your Epson R1900 printer. The erratic spacing and repeated printing of the same image or text on the next line suggest that the paper advance mechanism is not functioning properly. This could be caused by a number of factors, including a worn or damaged paper feed roller, a misaligned paper feed mechanism, or a malfunctioning sensor that controls the paper advance timing.
To troubleshoot this issue, you can try the following steps:
Check the paper feed roller for wear or damage. If it is worn or damaged, it may need to be replaced.
Check that the paper is loaded correctly in the printer, and that it is not jammed or wrinkled.
Check that the paper thickness setting in the printer driver matches the paper you are using.
Clean the paper feed mechanism and paper feed roller with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Reset the printer by turning it off, unplugging it from the power source, and leaving it unplugged for at least 10 minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on again.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to take your printer to a qualified technician for repair or replacement of faulty parts.
The printed output is fuzzy, blurry, or grainy, or the edges of objects in the images are jagged.
Solution
Follow these steps until the issue is resolved.
Step one: Check your paper
Many papers have printing and non-printing sides. Load the paper with the printing side down.
Use
the correct paper type for the project. For everyday documents, plain
paper works well. For documents with dense printing, such as
high-contrast graphics or photographs, use HP Advanced paper for the
best results.
If
these steps do not help, try a different paper. Ink might not bleed as
easily on heavier paper. Paper that does not accept ink well is also
prone to bleeding and smearing. HP designs its inks and papers to work
together.
Step two: Check the settings
In the program being used for printing, click File
, and then click Print
.
The Print
window opens.
Make sure the appropriate product is selected, and then click Preferences
or Properties
.
The Preferences/Properties
window opens.
Click the Printing Shortcuts
tab.
Consider modifying some or all of the options in the Printing Shortcuts
menu to increase print quality.
Print quality
: If the quality of the printouts is not acceptable, try increasing the
print quality. To print more quickly, try decreasing the print quality.
Paper type
: If one of the options matches the paper type exactly, select it instead of Automatic
.
Paper size
: Make sure that this option matches the paper loaded in the product.
To see additional options, click the Advanced
tab, and then click Advanced Features
.
The Advanced Features
window opens. Consider changing the following option:
Ink volume
: Adjust the amount of ink that prints on a page. For lighter images
(less ink), drag the slider to the left. For darker images (more ink),
drag the slider to the right. The lighter the ink volume, the more
quickly the printout dries.
Step three: Check image resolution
Make
sure that the image file has enough resolution for the size of the
printed picture. Although many photo applications can enlarge an image
or part of an image to any size, eventually the individual pixels become
visible and the whole image looks blurry.
Here are some general guidelines for image file resolutions:
94 pixels per cm (240 pixels per inch) for images to print on smaller format photo paper, such as 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch)
117 pixels per cm (300 pixels per inch) or higher for larger format photo papers
Lower resolutions might produce acceptable images when printed on rough-textured paper
Step four: Align the cartridges
If
the previous steps have not improved the appearance of the printout,
align the cartridges. See the user guide for alignment instructions.
That doesn't seem like video card issue it sounds like a printer driver issue. Check your print settings and make sure it's set to simply black and white or just color....and uncheck advanced dot placement mode.
go to start -> settings -> printer an faxes
- > click file
- > server propertiess
-> click on create a new form
-> give new name 8.5x6
-> set width 8.50in and height 6.00in
- >save and exit
open crystal report
-> file -> printer set up
-> click properties > click advance
- > select paper size into 8.5x6 and save
ok finish
When turn on status ok, but when star to print, it feed paper then jammed? Problem with head carriage. Check chip and connector chip at carriage. Try to use another ink tank.
Choose the media type on print settings that is closest to the type of paper that you are using. Choose the correct paper size too. Try printing again.
Goodluck.
1. The wrong driver is being used for your printer.
2. The paper thinks it is printing to different sized paper than it actually is.
To solve the first case: Verify that the correct driver is being used. Go to the Control Panel (Start, Settings, Control Panel) and open up the Printers and Faxes component by double-clicking on it. Right-click on your printer and go to Properties. A new window will pop-up. Go to the Advanced tab and verify next to where it says 'Driver' that it lists your model of printer.
To solve the second case: Exactly as you did above, under the Advanced tab, click on the 'Printing Defaults' button. Then click on the Paper/Quality tab on the new window. Under the Paper/Quality tab click on the 'Advanced' button. A new window will pop-up. Where it says Paper/output, expand it (click the plus) to list Paper size. Change Paper size to match the size of the paper you are printing (Letter is the default 8.5" x 11").
Don't know if it's the same problem i had but its maybe worth a try. My paper went in a little, the wheels were turning but it didn't take the rest of the paper or print. Someone replied to my problem, i tried it and it fixed 1st time. Also seems to of worked for others, it seems to reset the sensors or something. Solution:- Use a piece of thin card, a magazine cover is what i used, make sure its A4 size then try to print something, as the paper starts moving push it through!! and hey presto it worked for me, everything printing fine now. hope it works, let me know, Garty
I had the SAME problem with my printer and after hours of searching on the web I found this solution on fixyourownprinter.com and it WORKED! I cleaned the contacts of both of the ink cartridges and then popped off the cover of the optical sensor on the side of the ink cartridges (black plastic cover over sensor assembly snaps off) there is a hole in the middle of the sensor, push it in with a thumb tack or toothpick and push up on sensor assembly and it will come off the side, clean the contacts on that and reassemble..the blue sensor light should come back on and you should be back in business.
