Not a good idea if your unit is under warranty. You should take it in to a service center for the repair. The unit has many tabs that lock the case to the frame and you could damage them if you do not know how to release them properly. This could void your warranty and ruin your case. The results maybe that you are unable to close it correctly and align it with the frame, to secure it.Unless you are very experienced and have the correct tools to work with. It is better to take it to a service center. Hope this helps.
Put monitor on large padded surface screen down. Remove Table stand by removing the screws from monitor back panel. You may have to remove a plastic cover to find these screws.Remove all screws from monitor rear panel casing. Using a plastic pry bar tool or a plastic putty knife, unlock all the locking catches around the rear panel and front panel of the monitor. This must be done on all sides of the case. Remove rear panel cover. Looking toward the bottom part of the monitor, find front panel switch assembly board. Remove securing screws and remove the switch board. This should expose the switch covers.Check the positions of all the cover and align them correctly to the switches. reassemble unit by reversing the previous process. This is so crazy. my Mom bought the whole enchilada - desktop, printer, monitor (WF1907)etc. The power button went out on hers too. We unplugged, tried everything we/I could think of. Finally she went out and bought a new WS I believe it is a Samsung. I took her old one home(by the way it was only barely 2 yrs old)so my son could turn it in at EWaste, where he works. i let it sit with the rest of the computer "stuff" we have. After about 6 months, i thought I would try it with my pc. The darn thing is working like a charm!!! I will NOT touch the power button - it can stay asleep forever... Anyway, ya never know...

Certainly, if you jumper the connections to see which ones turn the monitor on or off, then you can go to an electrical supply place and get a micro switch and wire it in in place of the power button, or perhaps find a type that is flat that the power button can press. What you need to determine is if it is a push-on, push -off type switch, which always stays on or off depending on position or if it is a momentary interrupt switch where the button pressed momentarily turns it on and then releases and a second press connects the circuit to turn it off. You can do this by testing with your jumper wire, attach it and if the monitor stays on when you remove it, then goes off when you attach it again, you need the second type switch, if it goes off when removed, you need the always-on always -off first type switch. .
OP means that the lid does not close. Usually you need to replace the lid lock. Here the part.
The lid switch and wiring should be tested before replacing the switch. Pages 31 and 32 in this service manual show how to test the switch.Make sure power is disconnected before carrying maintenance.
First try resetting the laptop by removing battery with computer off and power not connected. Ensure that there is no disk inside the laptop and no connected USB device.
Test the laptop using an external display. There should be a video port at the back or at one side of the laptop. You may need to use a function key or to restart the laptop with the external monitor connected to switch to the external monitor.
If the laptop has picture in the external monitor, then the problem is either the back-light inverter or the LCD display. The inverter is the board that supplies power to the display and it is often located at the base of the display. Inverter is tested disassembling the computer and reading DC in from main board to inverter and AC high voltage out from inverter to back light.
If there is no picture on the external monitor, then the main board is probably faulty. The main board is tested disassembling the laptop and starting with no disks or internal devices connected (apart CPU fan, adapter and display) and replacing the memory sticks with known good ones. If the computer has two memory sticks, it can be tested removing them one at the time.
Beverly, F2105 unit will need to be disassembled and new momentary tactile switch soldered in. Check out ALL the different styles and sizes to choose from at digikey.com !!! at least 16 pages of switches to choose from. Then you will need a soldering iron, solder wick, solder, and know how to disassemble unit to replace a $2 to $6 switch. If contracting out the work to competent technician your looking at minimum $45.
Forget fixing the plastic button. Crazy-glue only option there.

warc619, Maybe the "button" is only thing broken. Maybe the "switch" is broken. Yoyu will need to see if you can view some video clips of monitor disassembly and repair at YOUTUBE first. Then you will need to "teardown" your unit and determine exactly what component(s) have failed and if you can get new exact same size unit from "Digikey" or "Radio Shack" or "Mouser".... WOW! you may even need to learn how to carefully desolder the bad switch and solder in the new one. Good luck with the repair. You didn't tell us what type of monitor you own!! CRT or CCFL back-lit LCD???? 12fixlouie
Yes. If you feel adventurous you can do that yourself; only a little acquaintance with DIY and a soldering iron is needed.
You need to unscrew the monitor and get the front frame loose. Here you find instructions to disassemble the 172FPB model, which should be similar:
http://www.lcdrepair.us/files/e172fpbinstall.pdf
Of course you don't need to unmount the power unit, you only need to unlatch the front frame.
Once you unlatch the front frame, the power button and the other three buttons will fall off (you'd better tape them to the front beforehand). Behind the power button, you will find the TRUE power button, which is a normal solder-on press-button. Unsolder it and take it to an electronics shop. The button has a body and a peg which goes in: any button with the same body will do even if it has a longer peg (you can cut or sand it shorter). Longer body buttons may not be OK because they might not fit the frame bezel. Anyway, Benq (which is the E172's manufacturer) uses standard components, so I guess a half-dollar will get you a compatible button.
About your only hope for getting a replacement switch is to buy a "Parts Only" monitor off of EBay and carefully remove the switch. This one is tricky it's attached to the front bezel as you've likely found out. When you disassemble the monitor, lay it face down and remove the bac plastic then remove the 4 screws holding the button board on then take the rest apart. That's the safest way.
