I replaced the drum in my brother hl4070cdw laser printer and the ''drum end soon'' light is still on. How do I reset the drum counter or will this fix the problem?
When you replace the drum unit with a new one, you need to reset the drum counter by completing the following steps:
"Reset Parts Life".
This drove me crazy recently...
The Reset Parts Life option is not available unless the "Drum End Soon" message is on the display. If you replace the drum before this message appears, you'll have to wait to reset the count.
The following link explains the entire drum replacement procedure including reset:

*please rate me :)
SOLUTION IF YOU CAN'T GET THE "RESET DRUM COUNTER" MENU ITEM TO SHOW UP: This happened to me after buying a new drum. I called Brother and they said to hit "Go" and the "+" buttons AT THE SAME TIME to get the "Reset Parts Life" option to come up. This worked for me.
