Unplug it and wait a minute or two, the lid will release. Take out the clothes, plug it back in, put it in spin and close the lid. If it goes back to work, good. If not, check Repairclinic.com for repair clues.
I would think the lid would unlock once you unplugged the machine. Check your owner's manual for any kind of "emergency reset" procedure. Perhaps the lock mechanism is jammed. Have you tried pressing on the lid or tapping it to see if that frees the lock?
The DU error code indicates that the control detects a problem with the washer door (lid) unlocking. In this situation, the failure is normally caused by a failed door lock assembly. I provided technical information on this failure in the first image below. You can use this information if necessary to verify a failed lid lock assembly. The control is apparently sending the voltage to the lid lock mechanism to unlock the door but is not sensing that the lid is unlocked. There is a chance that you have a wiring failure or a bad control board so it is best to thoroughly diagnose the failure if possible before replacing components. Be sure that you unplug the washer before accessing internal components. If you determine that you have a failed lid lock assembly, you can use the procedure shown in the second image below to replace this component.
Greetings,
this washer has a lid switch problem...or possible main board failure, but lid does concentrate on the lid safety switch. If you remember when you open the lid it stops..well, its a safety feature and prevents tub from spinning with lid open...this one is more difficult to service if your not use to working on washers...try unplugging machine and leaving off for awhile...does the door lock? check switch for lid fault
That is why the washer won't start. Replace the lid lock. It is there to stop anyone from putting their hands inside of washer when it ia agitating, by stopping power to the motor.DO NOT try ANY attempts to mmake it work!!!! Injury may result
timer problem or maybe the lid switch is going bad. Im curious if the motor is getting hot and shutting down... go to whirlpoolpartssurplus.com call .. ask for mark
with putty knife press in along front edge between top and front about 2-3 ins from outer edges on release clips top will lift up suspect bad lock assembly
