Question about Venturer PVS1950D Car DVD Player

1 Answer

DVD player plays some dvd's but not others. It takes a long time to load & then either doesn't play or freezes up at different times. Someone told me that the lazer could be getting weak. Is this a possibility, and if so, what should I do? Can I replace the dvd deck?

Hello Danabelle, The person who told you this is somewhat correct. Over time components tend to weaken and this is true for the laser in your DVD player, however you should not dismiss the fact that what you possibly could do is clean the laser. I would suggest that you go the a store that sells DVD cleaning equipment which should consist of a lens cleaning solution, and cleaning swabs (a fiber optic cleaning kit would work great here)now, to clean the lens you will have to open the unit so as to expose the lens which is the glass looking object near the DVD locking spindle. follow the kit instructions as to cleaning. (I do not recommend a DVD cleaning disk unless it is the brushless type.). Now once the DVD lens has been cleaned try to paly a DVD that formerly had a problem. If it plays you solved the issue. However if this does not solve the problem. The lens may have to be aligned and/or the carriage has to be cleaned. That procedure is a little involved and could lead to damage if not done correctly. If cleaning does not help, you should take the unit to a repair shop or find a shop on fixya that can do this for you. Please let me know if cleaning works. Thank you, Shuttle83

DVD will play for a short time and then freeze.

Then try and playback the dvd , also check on the dvd to see if there are any scratch marks or dirty marks ie finger prints etc , if there is , obviously clean the disc, if not get a disc cleaner for your dvd drive / dvd player and then try again afterwards.

Also try a different dvd and see if that makes any difference

Samsung 3650 dvd/vcr player loading problem

Sorry, no suggestion other than don't buy Samsung. That's my conclusion after owning the same model. It worked fine for a while, but now won't load any DVD... usually. Sometimes it will play one, but more often it won't. Mine tries to load ("Loading") for a long time, I hear the DVD spinning, then ultimately the screen displays "This disc cannot be played" or something to that effect.

Portable DVD player

Its sounds like cpu/memory problem. the laptop can't play dvd while doing other things. Try to play dvd while all other application are close, if it doesn't freeze its a cpu/memory problem (inwhich case why should try to buy more memory)

Freeze up on DVD

Hi vaffl I read your symptom this morning and it sounds like you might have a tracking problem. In order to confirm this problem remove the top cover. I would start by measuring the power supply voltages. Load a disc in the player and press play. See if there is any change in the voltage levels durring the time that the player starts acting up. Sometimes a faulty voltage regulator will cause this problem. I hope this helps you. Bruce

Player freezes at same time on almost every disk, and recorder programs won't play on anything else.

The last problem is probably because you have not ?finalized? the DVD yet. Basically what that does is modify how the data is stored on the DVD so that a normal DVD player can read it. It also prevents you from modifying or recording to the disk any more so make sure you?re done before performing this. The part about the freezing is more complex, are these commercially recorded DVDs or something someone else recorded?
