Without more info or seeing the set, the most likely problems are :- the inverter that powers the backlight has failed or the backlight itself has failed The first is the cheapest and easiest to repair the latter could mean the screen needs to be replaced. You don't say if you are getting sound though. if you aren't it may just be that the internal fuse has blown. I hope this points you in the right direction.
total dead usually means the fuse---unplug the set for safety and remove back cover---follow power cord just inside and you will find the fuse in a snap in holder--check to see if bad.............if good let me know and I will try to assist you.

First thing you do is to check the outlet if there is a power output the check the power cord and plug.If there 's a power in the power cord,Check the fuse of your television. The fuse is located at the power supply. You can see the power supply when you open the back cover of your television at the upper right side.Replace the fuse if busted with the same value of fuse. That's the step you can do first..Thanks..
Make sure the AC cord is not loose or disconnected. Check to ensure the cord is firmly plugged into the outlet at one end, and firmly connected to your television at the other end. The AC cord connects to the television about midway across the back of the set, near the bottom of the back panel. The hole for the AC connection is shaped like a figure eight. Try powering up the TV with the cords firmly connected.
Check the "Main Power" to ensure it is on. Locate the button on the top of the television among the "Volume" and "Channel" buttons. Press the button to switch the television on. If the "Main Power" button is off the remote will not turn on the television. Wait to see if pressing "Main Power" will activate the TV.
Press "TV Power" on the remote control to power up the TV from stand-by mode. If the power light on the front of the television glows red when you press "TV Power" on the remote, press the "Main Power" button on top of the television to remove the TV from stand-by. If the TV is accidentally in stand-by mode it may not come on when pressing certain buttons.
Check the circuit board. If your set still won't turn on and you hear a clicking noise when you plug it in, you most likely have a defective circuit board.
hello the glass fuse inside the tv might blew make sure the tv unpluged take the back in the power supply you should see a glass fuse if the fuse is black then it's blew if you put another 1 in and it blows again then you have a dead short somewhere
If you're any good at repairs I would check for an in line fuse. Check right where the power cord hooks into the TV. They sometimes blow just as you've discribed. If it's blown it's a pretty safe bet that replacing it will fix the problem. There is however a slight chance that something else might have blown it so if you replace it and it blows again take it to the shop. You've got a high 90"s % chance it's a 50cent fuse though. Good luck.
