Duplicate emails in Outlook Express?

When Outlook Express is configured for POP3 mail access it uses a file called pop3uidl.dbx to keep track of which message have been downloaded so that it can download only new messages. Sometimes this file becomes corrupted which results in the same messages getting downloaded again. So we will need a different copy of this file. Please do the following to recreate it:

- In Outlook Express click on Tools and Options.
- Click on maintenance tab.
- Click on Store folder button.
- It will open a small window with a path to the store folder.
- Copy the whole path.
- Click on start and Run.
- Click inside the run box and press Ctrl+V, it will paste the whole path we copied.
- Click on OK. It will open the store location.
- Close Outlook Express.
- In the folder that was opened, locate the pop3uidl.dbx file and right click on it and select rename.
- Rename that to pop3uidlold.dbx.
- Open Outlook Express and you will no longer receive any duplicate messages.

If you are using IMAP account, that can happen if your IMAP account is the default mail account and OE is configured to both open directly to the Inbox (which downloads headers automatically) and check for new messages when starting (which also downloads headers automatically). To stop the duplicates, simply choose one option or the other, but not both:

In Outlook Express click Tools > Options, then
1. Remove the check mark for When starting, go directly to my ‘Inbox’ folder
OR
2. Remove the check mark for Send and receive messages at startup.

If you already have duplicates showing, click Tools > Synchronize Account or Synchronize All.

I deleted outlook Express. It is gone! How do I get it back/re-install it? Doing the control panel thing just isn't working.

Try and do the system restore, that might bring it back. And also look into your recent documents

How can I recover a OE folder that was just deleted from my folder list for no reason? The folder was there one day and the next day it was gone. I have OE 6. Thanks, Tom Larkin

There is a good chance you can recover them, but if you have a lot of folders in a tree-like structure, you will lose this structure, all the folders will appear under the main branch.
If this is OK for you, first you must locate the OE files - you must be able to see hidden folders for that, that's for starters.
Second thing is that you must positively identify the folder, especially if you have several OE Identities.
Once identified, I would make a backup copy of the whole folder (with OE closed of course), just in case. I know it can be big... :)
You will have various .dbx files there. If the dbx file for your lost folder is there, and has a substantial size, chances are that it's OK.
You should turn your interest to folders.dbx, which most often is responsible for such problems; it holds the whole folder structure, and sometimes gets corrupted.
The radical way is to delete it or rename to folders.dbx.old for example. Now start OE and it should re-create this file, but with all the folders coming from the main branch of the folder tree. If your lost folder re-appears and is intact, you can congratulate yourself and perhaps move the folders to reflect the structure they were in before.

I'm aware that I'm being a bit vague, but a person that doesn't know how to look for OE files, show hidden files, make a backup etc. etc. should not attempt to do it, as there's a risk of losing everything...

Good luck!

Outlook express is trying to send a message with a lot of photos attached. It is unable to do this. How can I delete this message.

Hi,
If your Email is trying to send as soon as you start Outlook Express, you might try this:
Open Outlook Express and go to the top menu, click TOOLS then under that menu, OPTIONS. Under the GENERAL tab, uncheck the box for "Send and receive messages at startup", then click OK.
Close Outlook Express and start it up again. Hopefully this will allow you to delete the Email. Good luck!

OE sending back deleted emails

If you look under the accounts section of OE, you should see something under the servers tab that says 'save copy on server'. Make sure this is unchecked and the system will stop caching deleted mail.

Outlook email with attachment, sending problem

Load Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe"). This ensures:
- No plug-ins get loaded that might touch the item.
- Loading Outlook in offline mode means it won't touch the stuck item.
Delete the stuck item in the Outbox folder.
Put Outlook in online mode (File -> Work Offline: disable).
If you restarted Outlook in its safe mode, exit and restart Outlook for normal operation.

If it's Outlook Express, in OE Tools>Options> Maint tab "store folders" note the location. Go to this location and find the outbox. Delete the .dbx file that goes with it. It will recreate itself on restarting OE.

Outlook express

hi,

Error 0x800c0133 when you are retrieving email with your Outlook Express (OE) is because of currupted Inbox file.
To remedy please follow these steps:
  1. Open OE, on the left pane, right click "Local Folders", select "New Folder...", specify a name for your new folder as "Temp".
  2. If you are still able to access "Inbox", move all mails in "Inbox" to the new "Temp" folder.
  3. Go to menu "Tools" -> "Options" -> "Maintenance" tab -> "Store Folder" button. It will show the location of your Inbox file, please remember this location.
  4. Close OE, go to the location mentioned above, delete the file "inbox.dbx".
  5. Restart OE, the "Inbox" folder should be auto recreated. Move back your mails to the new "Inbox", remove the "Temp" folder.
or

Another solution
Error Number:0x800c0133

Error Number: 0x800C0133 = a corrupt Inbox.

Move any mail you wish to save to a local folder you create. Then:

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options |
View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Inbox.dbx} and
delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE.

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked.
