I have made my own cables but it is not worth it. Buy the ones already made and you will have much fewer problems down the road too (trust me). We started network at work from scratch and ended up with about 100 pc's. and I would never make my own again.

I need to wire a network cable into a wall plate purchased at home depot. the plug is not rj45 but a block with 8 screws and different colored wires. the problem is the colors don't match cat5e wire.any...

I have tried this, and my suggestion is to go back and get the proper wall jack. How much are headaches worth to you? If they are worth more than the wall plate, just **** it up and get the correct one.

How do u put the RJ45 Modular plugs on to network cable

Radio shack or electronics store has a tool that will crimp the modular plugs onto the network wire. Usually under 30 bucks.

Good luck!

Cat5e jack by leviton has eight slots, but my cat5 cable only has 4 wires in it. I punched the wires down on the back four connectors. As long as I do the same on my ends, this should work right? Please...

Cat5 has eight wires, anything less is for telephone. Your cabe is for telephone if it has 4 wires. Either return the cable and get 8-wire cat5 or go to another store for your cat5 wire.

Wiring on a RCA RJ-45 wall jack

the RJ45 wallplate is not meant for ethernet. It's an 8P8C connector for a phone. Will it work as a network jack? Maybe. I wouldn't use it, but if you really want to try, wire it thusly:

1 Blue --- Orange/White
2 Orange --- Orange
3 Black --- Green/White
4 Red --- Blue
5 Green --- Blue/White
6 Yellow --- Green
7 Brown --- Brown/White
8 White --- Brown

I'd still recommend a CAT5 wallplate with a CAT5 jack.

Dont know how to hook up cat5e cable to a leviton cat5e jack

Those two jacks are telephone jacks (RJ-11) not ethernet (RJ-45). The jack marked telephone is for a phone, and the jack with a rectangle symbol is for the telephone line into the wall.

You need to buy an ethernet PCI card - without one you can not use a cat5e line (which has an RJ45 connection).

Network cable stopped being recognized

rj45 (cat5) sockets have 8 internal tensioned wire prongs, (six are used for cat5 ethernet)
use weakens the tension and they can be dislodged sideways vertically or disconnected from the internal cabling. Likewise solder connnections to the motherboard fail.
a possible fix is to power down the pc, and with a jewellers screwdriver ensure that all the internal wires are present, straight, aligned, and protruding across the opening.
If there are missing wires(broken) then the rj45 socket shoould be replaced at your local pc store, (not walmart)a796c91.jpg

NIC blinks on then off for longer run lines

Please check the RJ45 plugs. the wiring should be as follows: RG45 connector side#1 legs 1236 goes to RG45 connector side#2 legs 1236 see the colors of the wires they should be equal
