Red error light blinks 5 times, fans stay running but cooling stops. I can reset power to the thermostat and it runs again for a couple of minutes before it goes back to the 5 blinks.

It appears that it is a "25" error. This is a "PFC" error. One of the circuit boards has failed. You could try a full power reset by turning the machine off at the power supply for at least 30 minutes and then trying again.
Look at your system. Does it have any blinking lights or LED error code? If a light is blinking, count the blinks to get the error code. Note: if you turn off the power to the unit, the code will reset. You may need to wait for the next call for heat to see the code.
Check your fan motor. If the blower isn't running properly, the furnace will shut off with an over-temperature issue inside the unit. You should also check the air inlet/exhaust pipe for blockages. (This could be a flue or two independent pipes.) Finally, the problem could be with the internal control board communicating with the rest of the forced air system.
You may need a service technician to fix the problem.
I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the make and model and any error code for more information.

(Last winter, my own house had the fan motor fail. It started as an intermittent failure to circulate the air and the combustion chamber getting super hot. Replacing that motor fixed the problem.)
This means your PC is doing a Thermal Shut down, the CPU is getting to hot, this means the fan is not running at all or fast enough, or is dusty causing loss of cooling to the CPU.
To fix this open the case look at the fan if its running as it gets louder I would say in your case it is, you need to remove all the dust from the fan and the heatsink I use a small USB fan from poundland (UK) this should stop this error.
Remove green (fan run) wire from thermostat, and connect to red wire (power) and see if fan runs, and if it will stay running. That will by-pass thermostat to see if it is problem. If it continues to run, thermostat is problem. If that doesn't cure it, I'd remove cover up top and with power off at circuit breaker, blow compressed air in to motor air holes to make sure it's getting proper air for cooling, as well look for small plastic plug on housing where oil can be added ( few drops) to lubricate motor. Leave cover off and try fan to see if that may help. If at all possible, a clamp on amp meter will confirm if motor or relay is at fault if none of these suggestions help. If amp draw at motor too much, motor may be seizing when warmed up from running. test draw when first started and after running for amount of time that it usually quits, and if noticeable difference, motor is seizing and needs replace. You can also test amp draw at main 120v feed wiring with unit just in fan mode.
That blinking light may be the diagnostic light. Count the blinks next time it fails. Carrier units will have two different blinks depicting the error code such as one blink followed by a pause than 3 blinks giving you an error code of 13. Then look at the wiring diagram, it will have an error code chart telling you where to start with your diagnosis. You already know that if you remove the cover it erases the error code, so look thru the small window first.
I have a 2001 S60 and the thermo fans come on after nearly every trip for at least 5 minutes, I would check your coolant levels and certainly change the thermostat if the problem persists.
