Bad electrolytic capacitors in the power supply or open resistor in the power supply startup circuit. I had this problem of 220k ohm 1/8w r1 in a sharp 20"lcd. This resistor is connected to + of the main bridge through a power diode. Tim Rasch

Sounds like your alternater, get a multimeter set it to volts start the car then check the battery is getting 14 or over volts from the alternater to the battery , if your getting less than that it's not putting enough volts back to the battery to run the car with good luck colin
Yeah, there seems to be something covering the light sensor causing the light to stay on throughout the day preventing it from having any energy to produce light for night. Good luck
