We've had this camera for over a year and use it fairly regularly but we use it more lately as we get more comfortable with it. Decided to try some more advanced features instead of just point and shoot but all of these are accessed through the MENU button. I can change modes on the top wheel from AUTO to SCENE or movies, etc. but I can't access the MENU functions or use the LCD or ASM buttons. Everything else seems to function fine. We take pics, download, and delete. We just came back from vacation and several hundred shots just fine but I can't get menu to work. I know it did once because I set the image size when we first got it.
Could I have turned this button off at some point? Can I reboot the camera? I have read through the manual and have tried removing the batteries and reinserting them. Samsung's website takes me to a nonexistent website when I try to contact them for help. Is this thing dead?

Re: Menu function not working
Take the battery out for while and replace it, to see if it 'resets'.
If it does not then there is something you are missing- check the software Cd- there is usually a more detailed manual in PDF format.
Failing that perhaps it is sick- a repair would not be a economical thing I guess.

Peggy, I hope that you thoroughly cleaned the heater inside and out, before firing it up after it has set for 2 years. If you didn't, more than likely, that's the problem. Not using it regularly does it more harm than using it constantly. That's because, while it was sitting for 2 years gathering dust, spiders went in it and may have built nests. These nests clog things up.
If after you've cleaned it and it still doesn't work in electronic mode, contact Empire Comfort Systems, Technical Service Dept 800-851-3153, for further advice. They are good folks to work with.
Hope this helps you to start troubleshooting the problem.
As it's a hardware incompatibility your only fix is to get a regular SD card. Although you may be able to find one up to the maximum 4GB, stick to a maximum of 2GB as most SD compliant devices were never actually tested with 4GB cards and so they often don't work.
It seems the life of digital cameras are 2-3 years. The camera has lens gear problem. The lens assy fails most on digital cameras with moving lens. The plastic gears in the lens assy. are quite fragile in design and when used regularly, gears tends to wear down and eventually damages the lens movement. Many time a small impact or stress on lens when extended do the same damage. The parts are sold as a lens assy and repair cost may run around $100.
