It would be best to take it to someone who mods them as they will know if it is the correct drive and if it is running modded firmware(as they are the guys who do this regularly) and if the drive has been set up correctly. They also may be able to extract the drive key and reflash the original(or modded if you preferred) firmware for the drive.

Try to insert a straighten paper pin into the hole under the tray if still no go You have to open the cover and take the cd out.

The diode in the lens has gotten too weak to put out enough voltage to read the game discs. I'm assuming that you have the original drive board still in your system.
you can find another lens on eBay really cheap, here is 3 links because the x box 360 consoles use 2 different lenses. On one of them the connecter for the worm gear mounts on the top, the other mounts from the bottom of the laser

The XBOX 360's DVD drive is tied to the motherboard using a software lock.The easiest way to overcome this lock is to buy the exact same manufacture DVD drive that is in your system now, remove the circuit board from the old DVD drive (which contains the software key) and transfer the circuit board into the new DVD drive that you purchase. If you do this simple procedure, there is no flashing involved. Your Xbox 360 lens are most likely dirty. And your 360 probably has something like dust stopping it from scanning your games. I suggest blowing into your DVD drive carefully and gently. If it still doesn't work I recommend sending your Xbox 360 back to Microsoft for a new one if your under warranty. If you don't have a warranty you could clean you lens by your self. But opening your 360 to clean the lens could make it worse so do it at your own risk.

You need to flash your dvd key to it.Every 360 has its own unique code,without this inserted an Xbox will merely play DVD movies etc but NOT games.
If you specifically got the Benq mfr because thats the drive that was originally in there then you can simply swap out the pcb board inside.Disconnect the 4 ribbons connecting the board to the:
Lazer
Worm motor
Tray drive
Magnet/spindle.
Then reconnect in the same manner (vice versa) and hey presto your all set.
BUT if your drive originally was NOT a Benq ie Samsung,Hitachi or Liteon then you CANNOT do this and will need software for flashing your key to the new drive,you will also need to spoof said drive so as to look and react like the model initially used.

Ok the problem is all xbox 360 motherboards come with preset keys like a password everyone is different. your origanal benq vad 6038 dvd drive also has the key programed into its sst chip on the pcb (Printed Circut Board) which allows it to work with that motherboard (another way of explaning this is it works the same way as a wireless network anyone can connect to it but you must input the correct password to be able to connect and use the internet)

There is a solution you need to extract the dvd key out of your old dvd drive and inject it into your new one. To do this you will need a few tools
