Question about Xerox Phaser 8550/DT Thermal Printer

Power up Issues

Recently, I powered down my 8550 as I was waiting for a new ink supply to arrive. When the new ink arrived, I install the sticks and turned the printer back on. It would not come ready. The control panel was dark although the LED on the left did turn green after a few moments. I cannot print at this point since there is nothing to read on the control panel screen. This machine is fairly new - only 1350 prints although I have owned it for over a year. It is my third phaser and the only one that has even given me any trouble. My 1st thought is to change the control panel - not cheap proposition. Any ideas? Why would it fail on a simple power down where it sat for a few days and then a powerup? My 860 has over 300K prints and still runs even after being knocked off its stand. Thanks! Frank

Xerox replaced the control panel on my 8550 for free because a chip went out on it...its their fault and they knew it.  call them and tell them you need the control panel replaced. it is quite easy to install it yourself, it comes with instructions.

I am suffering from the same problem and I called Xerox. The problem is your control panel and this is a known defect for this printer. My replacement os on its way. It appears that if you take off the control panel, you can find a bad soldier joint.

So, add the 299 different delays (299, 298, ... , 1)

to compute an "average" wait-time.
