The blue gun is not working properly which explains the dominance of green and yellow colors. you need to look after dry-joints on the blue gun circuit board, sometimes oil leakage from the lens may also affect the board

We have a phillips 57 inch model number 55pw9317f and it has a rainbow and color is awful from what i see with the pictures i am having the same problem but dont know how to fix it . can you help

All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Philips magnavox 9P6040C104

i just found out why, turn on ur tv and remove back look directly into 3 lenses, if the picture is not nice and clear or looks snowy in all 3 u will not get good color or brightness. I removed my blue tube assembly and took it apart WHILE OUT OF TV. there is cooling fluid between lense and tube, this fluid over time will build a film on the face of the tube and get thick enough to block the tube from projecting picture. (MARK EDGES IT GOES BACK TO GETHERE THE SAME WAY IT CAME APART).Find some new fluid then carefully dissasemble and clean interior of lense, housing and tube thouroughly. Reassemble and fill with new fluid. Do not use old fluid it will be cloudy and snow globe effect. Only do 1 tube at a time this will allow u to realign cross manually as close as possible before u perform convergence. Leave the green for last that is the center and the red and blue are moved to match green. Also be sure to clean mirror and back of screen. Pete

I have a Phillips maganavox Projection TV I believe it is model 9P6040CI and the color is dull and I believe the red is going or gone. I've tried to tune it but will not let me

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Color problem with Phillips 53" projection tv

Bet the fluid is bad. You can take the back off and look into the green and blue lens. See if the picture is clear. If cloudy the fluid is bad. Be careful when doing this. Changing the fluid should be done by a tech.
