Zoom lens out permanently. When power is switched on camera screen comes on for 2/3 seconds, gives three beeps and turns off. Have tried charging batteries that came with camera, new rechargeable ones and non-rechargeable batteries. Was NOT dropped or damaged. Happened just after the years warranty and was seldom used.

My sister-in-law and I have this same camera and it does the same thing!! Very frustrating! I was hoping it was on a product recall but I am not finding anything.

  • blckct1 Mar 31, 2008

my camera did the same thing, very frustrating......................lay your camera on its back with the lens upward. My camera had gotten stuck because it didnt retract evenly. It was obviously uneven...............I just had to gently push at the uneven place and it immediatly began working again............Hope this helps Lesley Wilkinson

My camera beeps 3 times & turns off without the lens colapsing back into the camera.

I changed the batteries, cleaned the battery area, still get the same response.

The lens still sticks out partially & the screen says E18.

I charged the rechargeable batteries (that came with the camera) using another battery charger (rather than the charger that came with the camera) and hey presto! As soon as I closed the battery compartment door, the lens retracted into the camera and the camera started working perfectly fine! Had sat in the cupboard for over a year without being able to use it. Happy days!!!

Look Under the Subject Title E18....May be the same problem.

Had this happen with the lens stuck in the retracted position.  Rapped the camera on my palm to jostle the lens a bit, turned it on and back to normal.

This is how I fixed the same problem...while the lens were trying to extend and the beep was sounding, I removed the batteries by opening the battery compartment door. Then added a VERY small amount of W40 around both lens housings. Works great now!

SOURCE: camera beeps 3 times the shuts off

If the camera is older sometimes the battery brakes down after starting as the motor for the lens needs a lot of power as the starting of the lcd does. Had a similar problem with a different camera. I tried a friends battery and suddenly all worked fine.

I have a samsung S500 and when I turn it on the lens doesn't open or extend and it will beep 3 times and shut off. I have tried new batteries and nothing works. I took it to a camera shop and they

Well, have you ever considered that the lenses MIGHT be defected? If it's true, you can send it back to the manufacturer, as long as it wasn't YOU who made it defected.
Another tip, is maybe the lens isn't made for that type of camera.
Lastly, the lens can just be broken, so you should carefully examine it, and see INSIDE of it, to make sure all of the parts are their. Hope this helps (:

My camera turns on then beeps 3 times then shuts off is it broken or is there a reset button?

The three beeps mean that the lens motor is unable to extend the lens assembly.
This could be due to a low battery situation, but the most likely cause is the lens drive train stuck or jammed. You'll find generic instructions on solving some cases of jamming here.
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Unfortunately, more serious cases (due to falls, shocks, and most of all, the camera being turned on while some resistance prevents the lens from extending: e.g., if the camera accidentally turns on while in a pocket) require the repair shop.

I turn camera on. Lens comes out. beep 3 times. turns off.

Everytime I try to turn it on, the lens comes out for about a second, the camera beeps 3 times, the lens retracts and the camera shuts off. The battery is completely charged and the camera is only 4 months old. HELPP :(

Camera beeps loud 3 times and shuts right off!!

sounds like a lens error, does the lens extend or retract? You probably have to get the lens back on track, use gentle pressure wiht the camera face down on a towel covered table and turn on to see if the camera tries to retract the lens. I really dislike these types of cameras that extend the lens everytime, if it turns on in your pocket, your doomed!

When I try to turn on my camera (Samsung Digimax S500), it beeps 3 times.

My Samsung S500 kept shutting down (with lens extended but no beeping) as soon as it was turned on. After reading similar problems being caused by a jammed lens mechanism, I GENTLY twisted & tugged the extended lens mechanism (no crude comments please), and it worked the next time it was turned on.

Beeps 3 times

Is it an actual beep, or is it a beeping noise coming from the lens? Does the lens extend? I ask this because this is the noise the lens focus gears make when they are knocked out of alignment, or debris gets in them and jams them.

Canon G5 Lens error message

Defective mechanism, a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. You need professional service to fix it.
