I have a 35 inch mitsubishi and it suddenly stopped working one morning. I turned it off and then turned it back on about 8 hours later and nothing. It makes the typical sound it makes when you turn it on but there is no picture or sound. Any ideas?

There are two issues, the first is a vertical deflection problem, "needs a few parts+an ic" the second problem is intermittent color, "crystal and color processor ic" If the set is close to 10 years old then your money is better spent on a new tv.
There is some short in the inside circuit of your TV. Horizontal output transistor may be leakey. Replace it with a new one of same type and number. If it doesn't rectify the problem, LOT should be replaced.
Check the electrolitic capacitors in the vertical section for leakage or dry condition. The vertical amplifier IC may also be defective and check for the solder joints around the high power resistors as well.
Sorry to be the one to inform you Sheri, but this set is known to have several bad capacitors in the sweep as well as the power supply. Unless you have an ESR type capacitor checker, your going to have to take it in for service, by a pro. Hope yopu did'nt pay to much for it. Good Luck
