Gateway VX1120 CRT Monitor

Hello,

I have a Gateway VX1120 CRT monitor and the screen is kind of dark. I brightened it all the way using the adjustments on the OSD screen and it is still kind of dark. Any solutions out there besides buying another monitor? Thanks

Try using a I.O.gear V.G.A. splitter which works with 120 volts. It is a small box that you attach your output from the cpu into the splitter and you will have two amplified outputs. That if you wanted to you could run two monitors on it. I have a gateway ev910 and had trouble with a lack of brightness this boosted it right up. The unit sells for around $25.00 and uses V.G.A. hookups. You can also just try using a two way V.G.A. Y splitter. I did this and didn't hookup the second V.G.A. socket. For some reason this really brightened the crt monitor. Hope it works. Good Luck, Sincerely, Alan.

SOURCE: monitor goes dark after a few seconds

it looks like the video driver needs to be chcked. can you try to go to the bios of your omputer by pressing f2 on boot and let it stay there for 5 minutes? if it still goes to a black screen, its either your video card or lcd thats having a problem. but if it doesnt goes to a black screen in bios, its just the video driver. go then to safe mode by pressing f8 on boot. then uninstall and reinstall the video driver. or run system restore. restore it back to a working date thts by clicking start, then click all programs, go to accessories, go to system tools, click system restore, choose an earlier date and hit next, follow the prompts, wait for the computer to restart and that should work!

Screen dark

Have you tried to brighten it by the keys on the keyboard? Most times you have to Press and Hold the FN function key located at the lower left portion of the keyboard then hit the key that brightens the display.

If that does not work then try the steps below.
Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

Dark Screen

there is a weird possibility that somehow your PC is configured to save power.. that is something you can do on a laptop to save battery..
you can check in the control panel what is the status of your energy options and see whats going up there..
there is also another possibility that it might be the monitor to be malfunctioning... but if after the screen being dark and you enter the options on the monitor and they are bright i doubt its a malfunctioning monitor..
so try to reinstall the monitor drivers and possibly the drivers of your video card if you have one.. but my biggest bet would be the option energy in the control panel

Hello,

The 204B monitor have a known issue with power supplies that start failing and you get the "slow to show picture" problem just like you have. The monitor is very easy to repair and the parts are low cost. Here is a link to our repair guide http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/samsung-204b-lcd-monitor-repair/ If you can solder then you can fix your monitor. If you don't want to repair it contact me and we may be able to buy it from you for parts.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Monitor showing way too dark

While there may be other components bad, your picture tube is most likely worn out. With age and use the electron guns get weak, and the dim screen is the result. There is no cure except to replace the tube, and that's completely uneconomical. A new LCD monitor is less than $100.

Gateway PC Notebook/Tablet Model: CX2618 Monitor Replacement

First shine a flashlight on the screen. if you can see a very faint image on the screen the problem is the backlight. If not... it could be a few other problems, first test if it works on an external monitor. If it can then you need to cleear the CMOS. to do this you unplug the cord remove the battery and hold down the ON button for 30-60 seconds, then turn it on. If it does not work on the external monitor it is probally because you have a bad video card and need to replace it.

Desk top computer crt monitor

Time to buy a new monitor, especially if you are still running a CRT monitor.

There is nothing you can do without taking the monitor to a repair shop, and that would cost more than the value of the monitor.

Screen too dark

Hi, This might also work for you, http://www.fixya.com/support/t162607-dim_compaq_s510_crt_colored_monitor However, this involves opening the monitor so not unless you're comfortable working with tools and open units, I would recommend that you ask the services of a qualified professional. Good luck and kind regards.
