This can occur when you compose a message and then hit recipient and then enter the contacts name. The phone will say 'Sending' then 'Cannot send/retrieve messages'.If you enter the recipients NUMBER the transmission will work OK.
If you want to send a text to someone by NAME, select their name from the 'Contacts' list then hit the Message icon (envelope). Write the message then hit send...
first restart the mobile....now check if it goes...if it didnt then go to message->message settings->text messages->message center....it ll ask u a number..contact ur customer care to get ur center number..now enter it...n save it....now restart the phone...it ll surely work......

Hi if you ring up your service provider they will send you the settings via a text message this will update your phone they dont charge for this.
Also if you go onto your service providers web site you can sometimes send the settings to your phone from their web site not all sites do this but they will send you text message to update your phone for free hope this helps
The phone allocates a certain amount of storage for messages on a whole. Even though there may still show space available for text messages, you have hit an invisible "limit" and the phone is now defaulting to MMS messages because there is "room" there. Delete a fair amount of messages and you should be able to start sending regular text's again.
