Question about Fuji FinePix A340 Digital Camera
I bought a new memory card for the camera -- an Olympus XD M2GB. When I turned on the camera after putting in the new card, the screen read "card not initialized" and won't take photos. It's the ve of my sister's wedding and I want to take lots of photos - help please! Many thanks. Kristina
The trouble with trying to format large cards of 1Mb or 2 Mb is that in order to do so you need your original card or a card that currently WORKS. I have one of 16 Mb. Go to Fujis web help page and download the firmware fix "FinePixA340" to your PC. Run and extract the data file "FPUPDATE".Now you have to put this file onto the old card. I pasted it so it was "beside" the DCIM folder ( NOT the next one down 100_Fuji folder or it won't work). To copy and paste you may have to connect the camera to the PC or use a XD card reader/writer via a USB port. Having done that, put the card back into the camera if you used a XD writer and switch off the camera. For the next bit make sure your batteries are good or connect to a power supply. Hold down Disp/Back button and THEN turn on camera. It should have detected the new firmware data file. Follow the simple instructions-say yes and let the data file load--takes a few minutes. The camera should say the new version !.22. Now that the firmware has been updated , you can now format your NEW LARGER cards 1 or 2 MG. So take your old card out ,put the new card in and format. It worked sweet as a nut for both 1 and 2 MG. The trick is to use a card that already works, load firmware file onto this , update file onto camera, then format a larger card. Its what they don't say exactly that causes frustation. Happy formating campers

There are two types of xD card - one are simple, and the other are M-type cards, these works faster, but not supported in older cameras. i believe A340 will not work with M-type cards, so you just have to buy another card, also see manual specifications on how big the card can be, i know most of the old cameras only support cards 'till 1GB, simply because on the moment they were made, they didn't have 2GB back then, so these 2 things to consider before buying a new card

I believe that the A340 can only handle a 256Mb card, as I have tried a 512 and a 1Gb and the camera couldn't handle either.
Just my 2 cents...

This is an answer from somebody else but i followed the steps and now my camera is working fine. ignore some of the sentences in fujifilmusa website. you must use new batteries when you do the steps.
First, while holding down the "disp/back" button, press the "on"
button. The camera should now be showing you the firmware version you
have on your camera. If it says 1.22, then you are all set. If it says
1.00, then you will need to update it. Go to
http://www.fujifilmusa.com/JSP/fuji/epar...
click on
"1. Free FinePix A340 Firmware (camera control software) Update Ver.1.22"
Follow the instructions there.
Once you have 1.22 on your camera (or if you do already), plug the camera into your computer.
Plug in your camera to your computer and turn it on. Go to your camera in "my computer". Right click it and select format.

i have a fuji finepix a340 digitial camera when i bought a new card by olympus the card read not initialized what can i do in order for this card to work with my camera
I've had the same exact problem listed below, but when I hit "disp/back" and "on" the top of the screen reads "Filmware Upgrade" and the middle of the screen reads "Card Error".... does this mean I have to do the upgrade as well?
Thank you.
screen reading memory card not initialized
I have the same error message showing, but this is my original card which has worked for years. I was doing some downloading and uploading to the card, which I also do all the time for years. When I was done, I put the card back in my camera only to find the error message: Card Not Initialized
I have a Fuji FinePix 3800
What happened to my disc and what can I do to fix it?
