Check the printers settings. It could be that it is set up incorrectly or you may be out of ink and it only appears to print from your computer because it can use all colors to make it appear black ink is used. Usually when color ink is used to create black print, it isn't a Black Black but with a bit of brownish hue. Try changing setting to USE BLACK ONLY and then see what happens. ALSO TRY my solution vice a versa.
I had the same problem with my DCP 165.It simply wouldnt print. The paper was coming out but it was Blank.I had changed all the cartridges so there was no obvious issue with the ink. Then I printed a test page.It printed all the colour blocks except the black. Then i found out from Brother website that it was a problem with cleaning and after seeral cleaning cycles the printer worked fine.
STEPS
1>ink management
2>Cleaning
3>Black or colour
4>OK
Repeat the above process several times and try printing after that...Hope it works
Remove the printer from control panel, under installed printers, then unplug the usb cable and reinstall the printer drivers using printer cd, or download from canon support website.
Print using pigment black ink only (Windows)
Instructionsto print using only the pigment black ink tank only. Occasionally youmay need to print using black ink only. Using grayscale alone does notprovide this option and the color inks will still be used. By followingthis procedure you may print using only the pigment black ink tank. Note: Image quality may be sacrificed when printing photographs.
Open the Properties / Preferences window for the printer.
For Windows Vista
Click/ Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'ControlPanel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'. Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, Click 'Printers' directly from the 'Control Panel'.
Clickyour right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and thenselect 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.
For Windows XP Home Edition
Click/ Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'ControlPanel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and Faxes.'
Clickyour right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and thenselect 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.
For Windows XP Professional Edition
Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Printers and Faxes.'
Clickyour right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and thenselect 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.
For Windows 2000/Me/98
Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.
Click on the Main tab.
Select 'Plain Paper' as the Media Type. If any other paper type is selected, color ink will be used to create black.
Note: The pigment black ink will only be used when printing on plain paper.
Select the box for 'Grayscale Printing'. If the document to be printed is in black only, then this step may be skipped.
Note: If either 'Borderless Printing' or 'Duplex Printing' are enabled from the Page Setup tab, grayscale will be created using a combination of the color (dye) inks to prevent smearing.
Click 'OK' to save the changes.
The printer will now only use the pigment black ink tank.
as u have ran out of ink you cant print anymore... you have to replace a new ink cartridge.... this is because when u print something, the colors will get mixed to print the exact color.... even if u are printing only in black, some other colors wil get mixed to produce the black color on the paper... so u need to change the ink cartridge.... u cannot run with a blank filled ink cartridge.... and the selection of your printer is very good...
