Ash Receptacle Console Mounted
Removal

1. Remove beverage holder by carefully unsnapping front portion using a flat-blade screwdriver. Grasp beverage holder and unsnap from console panel (045A36) .
   
   

1. Open ash receptacle (30702) and move gearshift lever (7210) to 1 position.

1. Grasp console top panel (044D90) and pull rearward to unsnap from console center finish panel. Disconnect electrical connectors from cigar lighter socket and retainer (15055) and lamp assembly.

1. Remove console top panel from vehicle.
   
   

Installation

1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.

Removal

1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301) .

1. Open ash receptacle .

1. At RH rear of ash receptacle, disconnect electrical connectors to cigar lighter socket and retainer .

1. Depress locking tab on LH rear and RH rear corners of ash receptacle toward center and pull ash receptacle from instrument panel (04320) .

1. Unscrew retainer from socket and remove cigar lighter socket and retainer .

Installation

1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.

First thing we need to do before anything is to remove the little feet that the ash tray sits on when it is open, and bend their tabs out of the way so we can open the ash tray to its fullest open position.

To do this, you'll need to play contorsionist a bit, and pull out the little rubber pads from behind the ash tray, then carefully bend the tabs back into the side wall of the ash tray assembly. You can refer to my pic below to see which tab I mean -- And you can also see the remains of the rubber foot in the background .

Once both of these tabs have been bent out of the way, you can then take the ash tray door, and pull it down towards the floor as much as you can.

Doing this will expose a small pin head sized hole in the side of the ash tray, and also a rounded triangle in the sides of the assembly housing, with a small notch at the top. The springs sit inside of these four holes / notches.

Ok, so now that you've got your springs ready to go, its time to install them. You want to take the end of the spring that has a little bit of a bend to it, and slide it into the hole. This will keep the spring from falling out in a few seconds. Once you've got the springs into the side of the ash tray, you'll want to take a skinny screwdriver, and use it to push the spring up and behind the ash tray where you can grab it with your finger.

Then both slightly close, and move the spring into it's proper slot at the top of the triangle. Repeat for the other side, and close the ash tray. It should hold itself shut, if not, make sure that you've got the coils of the springs oriented towards the firewall.

After you've got that finished, then bend the little tabs for the pads back to where they were, and re-install the little pads. You're good to go!

Any salvage yard should have a few cars to get them out of, they usually are like new.

The ashtray should be removable. It may just seem like your going to break it if you keep pulling. I would get the owners manual out and read how to get to the fuses it should have pics along with the instructions,

remove the ash tray,then remove the screws that hold
the ash tray bracket in place the bulb will be very easy to change then.

it is all clips and a couple of hidden screws torx bit # 15

on mine it was between the glove box and ash tray, behind the fuse box, you may be able to take the ash tray out and unbolt the ash tray metal housing and it will be there to the right,or remove the glove box to get at it.

There should be a tiny tab at the back of the ashtray that you'll need to pry away from the dash and the ashtray should pop out

Hi, No the dash does not need to come out. first you will open your ash tray. You will se a black metal tab push it down and the ash tray will come out. Then you will see to phillp head screws remove them. Then stick your hand where the ash tray was and pull the bottom panel it will pop out unhook the conectors. than there are 2 more philips head screws remove them and pull at the bottom of the top panel and it will also pop out.

I have a 1987 740 & the fuse box is located behind the ash tray in the center console. After removing the ash tray you can access the fuse box. Each fuse description, size, & location are listed on the back of the ash tray.
