The TV picture loses its color(almost looks lke a partial black & white negative)freezes up and the TV won't shut off. I have to pull the plug to turn off the TV. Upon restart, evrything is fine for about an hour when the TV again gose into the same mode as previously described. Pulling the plug and restarting the TV restores the picture for a short period of time. The lamp is on.
Have the same problem. Picture freezes in black & white like a negative with lots of snow. Even the closed caption is frozen. You cannot change channels, you can't do anything except turn it off. Repairmen came out & said they couldn't find anything wrong & maybe it's my cable box. Problem is getting worse. The only thing the repairman said that was helpful was that when you turn it off, you have to leave it off for 2-5 minutes until the fan shuts off. Otherwise, it just keeps recycling trying to come on, but it can't. I have a service contract on this unit, but apparently they don't know how to fix it?Have the same problem. If your tv has a custom settings area, first turn all color down on set so picture looks black and white. Now in color settings look for red blue and green color bars. Use the bars until the picture looks as true to black and white as possible. Also, try changing color temp.
we had a SONY Rear projection and we had that problem turned out to be a bad fan and caused the main control board to fail thus the same problem contact the company and see what the warranty covers
This tv have a colors wheel, hear loud motor noises, humming noises, squiling or grinding noises, have pictures black and white. All these causes are by the colors wheel is worn out, warp rubbing against it motor or fiber plastic glass briddle about to brake aparts.Don't turn this tv on anymore until,u change the colors wheel or u will damage the projection engine. The colors wheel are hard to change for amatur and hobiest.Because involved taking out many machanical parts, before even can come to the colors wheel to take out and change it.The best course to to hire a Tv Tech.to do this job.The price colors wheel part and labors.Awhile back was about $500-550,now??
Color wheel because of the losing color, but the light engine because of the picture freeze. It's very difficult to judge since I can't be there to see it. I'm leaning toward the light engine though. The only fix is to replace the DMD board, or entire light engine.
The color wheel can cause a black and white picture but not the jumpy or negative look.
Those symptoms are usually caused by the DMD assy which drives the color wheel and is somewhat expensive, most of the time you can purchase the whole Light Engine which includes the DMD assy for the same price.
Hi...what you are seeing is the DMD board (digital Mirror display board) going bad. And if you leave it turned on like that it will damage the DMD mirror and freeze that picture into the mirror. It will look as if someone etched it into the mirror. DMD boards can be repaired and some cannot be repaired. The DMD board can be replaced. The DMD mirror can also be replaced too.
This is usually caused by the tuner which loses the chrominance part of
the NTSC signal. Your did not say how you have it connected but it you
try using a composite video input (yellow jack) and get the color OK
than it must be the tuner which is not cheap but is worth having
replaced.
Hope Ya Fix it!
