Card Setup.. When i try to view my old pictures or take a picture, the viewer screen shows a Card Setup page, and i have either a choice of "Format" which will erase my pictures or "switch off".. How can i recover the pictures on the card?!

A shaded dark spot appears in the middle of picture, while viewing, and when card put into different device to view. Same when I tried new card.

Hi, Chances are your memory card has been corrupted and is no longer readable by your camera hence the camera asking you to "reformat". You have to perform the reformat to hopefully make the memory card usable again. To try and recover the pictures inside the memory card, you have to remove it, insert into a suitable memory card reader attached to a PC and make use of a recovery software. The software maybe available from the memory card manufacturer or a third party such as Smart Recovery (www.softwarepatch.com), Flash Memory card recovery utility (www.filesrecovery.org). How do I delete pictures from a coolpix S4000

To delete individual pictures: while viewing the picture, tap the trash can icon on the screen, then tap yes when it asks for confirmation.

To delete all pictures on a memory card: format the card. TAP MENU, tap the wrench icon, select "Format card."

To delete all pictures in internal memory: format internal memory. Tap MENU, tap the wrench icon, select "Format memory."

The delete instructions are in the "Deleting Pictures" section of the manual (page 33 in my copy). The format instructions are in the "Format Memory/Format Card" section of the manual (page 150). If you need a manual, you can download one from the manufacturer's web site at

After I take picture, the picture is captured & shown but when I try to view,(by pressing playback) it displays 'Cannot playback Image' with a big question mark. When I downloaded & tried to view...

Check to make sure that you did not accidentally change image format from jpg to crw(camera raw). Your camera lcd will only display jpg files and you need special software to view raw files on the pc.

My viewing screen is black when trying to take a picture but when viewing pics I have already taken the screen is fine and show the pics..any idea what is wrong?

You need to go into the setup menu and turn on the display. This is sometimes turned off when you use the optical viewer or in low power modes. Your user manual will show you how to do this step by step.

I am trying to download pictures off my camera card to the computer, I have the card in the computer but can't seem to find anything that will let me download. Please help Ann

Remove card.
Place card back in reader. Screen should come up with menu for you too choose which means you wish to view contents.

Click my computer/and if card is registering/it will be listed with your other drives.

Double click, this hould then open card to view contents, it will also show you which programme you have installed to view your pics. If no pics means you have not setup poota to view your camera pics.

You need to install a viewer prog.

Put an 8 gb sdhc into my cammera and i can view the photos on my cam but my computer dosent reconise the card. I run vista.

have you tried to get the computer to format the card, are you using window picture viewer via your lead or through a card reader slot, you could try by going to computer icon and connect via the connection showing on the screen, other than that try to open pics with another viewer loads of free programes on the web, lastly is your card a genuine 8gb not one of the many *** fakes about!

Olympus 850sw- write protect and picture error

Sounds as if the memory card has corrupted data on it now. You will need to format the memory card. This will permanently erase all the data from the card and then you will be able to use it again. To format the card: Press the Menu button - right arrow to Setup Menu - right arrow to Format- Press Ok. You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the write protect and picture error messages and the card can be used again.
