I cannot really see the words on the screen because of how dim the light is and I have no idea how to make it brighter. I have checked manual but there is nothing about it in there.

tried to adjust in the screen set up menu the brightness and contrast. if can not get with adjustment with very dim display replaced the back light ( cold cathode lamp).
We had same problem with this camera at work - like another poster has commented, we unscrewed the back casing, lifted it and put it together again - lit up again good as new! must be a faulty connection somewhere. Hopefully it's a permanent fix.
Follow the 2 steps I follow all the time, retry, and restore your ipod. My itouch's screen was also really dim but when i restored it, it turned bright.
Normally the way it works is if you plug in your AC Adapter to a laptop the computer screen will Brighten up since its no longer running off of battery and is actually charging . The reason why it should go dim is when you unplug the Ac adapter it goes dim to save battery life and last longer. If you are getting a really dim you can check and make sure that the Ac adapter jack on the adapter or motherboard isnt loose and it could be having contact to the unit and be loose inside and every small movement causes it not to charge / charge in and out and would cause this Dim effect. Again this depends on how old the computer is and I dont really think its the LCD or backlight going bad but you can try to mess with the screen brightness and If im not mistaken on that model it should be the FN key and the Right > and Left < Key for lower and higher brightness. Give that a try and check the adapter connection and you can pin point the issue . Hopefully it doesnt come worst to worst which could be a bad LCD going bad or damaged lcd internal cable. Hope my answer helped guide you closer to a solution.
Hi,
This is possibly, a loose cable or the screens inverter board is overheating. the inverter is similar to a booster in a flourescant light fitting. which converts power from DC To AC and boosts up the panels Light Tube. CFL if it,s faulty or overheating. this will cause the panel to dim.
also check the plunger at the underside of the screen, isn,t sticking down. designed to cut off the panel when the lid is closed. Finally some model laptops, only boost the brightness running on A/C Power. the battery would run-out fast with screen at full brightness. if theres an fn key on the keyboard, press fn and the brightness button to adjust screen brightness.
The auto dimming circuit on the ccfl inverter is out. Replace the inverter and it should cure your problem. Seek adult supervision for this repair. Do not try it by yourself.
