The control knob has cracked and needs to be replaced. The skirt and timing mechanism are fine. How do I remove the knob?

Have a replacement part MC 21001526 and neither it nor the broken knob has any screw fitting The Washer Model is AAV8000AGW not the 7000 as originally posted.

Pulling the knob outward meets stiff resistance and as the machine is operated by this action of pulling out the knob I was afraid to just pull it apart with force as this might damage the control main arm?

  • Mercury 372 Feb 16, 2008

You need to pop the front off the top control panel. At the back of the electrical control box to which the arm is fitted in the control panel, there is a release pin, pull outward and the knob is released.

When you pull it the control knob works;  however,  if you try to turn it,  it does not seem to lock on?  free flow?  like it has lost its attachment?  any ideas-suggestions please

Either pull it off or look for a set screw on the bottom. could be a regular screw but most likely an allen head set screw. go to repairclinic dot com for a replacement

I looked a a different site [www.partselect.com] and found the knob and skirt two seperate parts. so I'm assuming the knob part just pops off the skirt. Once you get the knob part off, removing the rest should be easy

I have a hotpoint Aquarius 1000 Washer/Dryer model number wd23w had it about 15 i used the dryer for first time and now everytime i put on a wash as soon as it is finished it goes straight on to dryer

Hi
you will prob find the knob for the dryer has broken
so you turn the knob but it doesn't turn the switch
remove the knob which just pushes on and pulls off
and look at the shaft of the knob you may see it has cracked
if you do just replace the knob and you should be fine

Radio won't turn on all the time. It works fine when it does. I cleaned the on off and it still does this. HELP

Try spraying electrical contact cleaner down the shaft of the on / off / volume control (after removing the knob itself) with the radio unplugged. Operate the knob if possible to "work" the cleaner into the mechanism - or gain access to the control from the back (inside) of the radio. These types of controls have an open snap action switch that is often piggbacked on the mechanism that may be visible or behind a tin protective cover. You may need to dismantle the cover to effectively flood the switch with cleaner. Read the label of the contact cleaner before using - as some may attack plastics, etc.

Good luck!

How do I replace the water line going to the water valve assembly

That sounds favourite! Let me know how you get on. Is the tubing you have left long enough? And has it gone brittle? In which case it might be a good idea to replace it at the same time as the valve

Kenmore 90 plus machine, top loader. the machine fills with water and agitates. It does not stop. The knob stays on the initial timer setting

Easy fix. Replace the timer. The timer drive motor or gears inside have failed. Their are 2 styles of timers. Plastic type base and a metal type base. The plastic timer has a hollow shaft. A plastic rod with a rounded tip is inserted into the hollow shaft to hold the timer knob in place. To remove the knob and skirt on these you simply yank out the rod and the knob will come on off. Then you can yank off the skirt (dial Indicator) and the timer mounting screws will then be revealed. The other style has a threaded shaft in which the knob will unscrew and the skirt can be removed so you can get to the timer mounting screws. A big old molex type plug goes into the timer. You yank that out and look for corrosion before buying anything AND make sure that plug is in there tight because it can vibrate out.

The set knob on my kenmore 70 series top load washer is stripped and I can't figure out how to remove it. The knob just spins and will not move inner set arrow to proper load cycle

flip up the controls
themobilian_2287.jpg
The timer has a hollow shaft. The tip of the shaft has
ears on it. To keep the knob on there a small rod is shoved up into the hollow shaft. The rod spreads the tip and retains the knob. To remove the knob pull out the rod a half inch and the knob and skirt is easily removed.

Hello:
Its either your knob is stripped or the timer itself is..Most commonly its the knob assembly that's bad.(part# WH01X10061) I would try it first since the knob is only around $7.00 where the timer is around $140.00or so...

Good luck

Heat blows out at floor only and ac does not come on even though light Indicates it's on. Has rear defrost and light works..Also has recirculating air button . I'm guessing the whole heating control in...

I would first remove the fuse for the heater control head for one minute and then put in and retry.
The control head could have locked up on you with a volt spike. The rear defrost switch does not go through the same circuit in the heat as the hvac controls. Could be a broken know also.
Could also be mechanical linkage on side of heater box above accelerator pedal may have broken or popped apart. or if electrical motor control may be actuator.

The knob on my kenmore elite won't move the timer.

The knob itself turns the switch on . The skirt move the timer position. Try turning the skirt. You probably have a broken knob. On these the knob is held in place with a plastic rod inserted into it all the way. This spreads the tip and retains the knob. To get the knob off to yank out the skirt for a look see you need to pull that rod out a tad to release the knob. 88be11a.jpgThat shaft has a rounded end on it that spreads out and locks the knob on. Clever ain't it? These timers are cheaply made, if you cannot find fault with the knob or the skirt then you is gonna need a timer.

Nothing to it, simply unscrew the knob then remove the skirt/escrucheon. Then you can remove the 2 5/16 hexhead screw that hold the timer on. Simple.

My reciever volume cuts in and out and crackles when adjusting

You can CLEAN / LUBRICATEthe volume control know with a CONTACT/CONTROL cleaner, I use a product from Radio Shack, this works wonders on drum type electo mechanical devices which are basically volume control knobs, easy to do, just remove the round knob and spray into the openings with the small tube attached, and rotate in both directions, be sure to unplug the unit first, on a few occasions it is best to remove the front panel to acheive better coverage to the rheostat type volume body, anyway it always cures the crackling and distorting sound, I would give this a try before replacing the part.
