The control knob has cracked and needs to be replaced. The skirt and timing mechanism are fine. How do I remove the knob?
When you pull it the control knob works; however, if you try to turn it, it does not seem to lock on? free flow? like it has lost its attachment? any ideas-suggestions please

Either pull it off or look for a set screw on the bottom. could be a regular screw but most likely an allen head set screw. go to repairclinic dot com for a replacement

Have a replacement part MC 21001526 and neither it nor the broken knob has any screw fitting The Washer Model is AAV8000AGW not the 7000 as originally posted.
Pulling the knob outward meets stiff resistance and as the machine is operated by this action of pulling out the knob I was afraid to just pull it apart with force as this might damage the control main arm?
You need to pop the front off the top control panel. At the back of the electrical control box to which the arm is fitted in the control panel, there is a release pin, pull outward and the knob is released.
