I bought this camera in the begining of 2006. I just recently went to turn the camera on and it shuts right off. Battery IS fully charged.
Yep.. This does appear to be a Kodak problem. I have a V550.. I know its not the battery because we charged it fully and as shown on the charger.. The camera has a SWITCH on the side that turns on the camera and screen and is able to go to review mode without the shutter lens open. unless it possibly needed more current to keep the shutter/lens mechanism open, then could be the batteries... anybody try a new battery yet?
otherwise, ill just ditch this and go with a canon or nikon..
I contacted the Kodak repair centre in Australia, they recommended I return the camera for repair. A week later I received an email stating they couldn't repair it and were willing to exchange for a different model. The new camera arrived and has been working fine, but I feel the quality of Kodak digital cameras are lacking compared to other brands. I wouldn't buy a Kodak again.
Forget Kodak - their support service sucks, especially in Canada. I had the same problem as above, and the repair centre can't even get the parts. Kodak Canada is impossible to reach and their web site is not kept up to date with some links not working. In the past, they do not respond to inquiries. I'm never, ever, going to buy another Kodak product.
Sounds like a new battery would do wonders. I would contact Kodak and see if hey will offer you a new battery. If not then I would go buy one. The battery is probably the most likely to go bad so fast on a camera.

I got my v550 Xmas of 05, now when I go to power it on it comes
on for an instant then shuts off, cannot get to come on. Tried
recharging the battery and putting in a new battery but still doesn't
work.
I have the exact same issues. Has anyone solved the problem?
ive had my kodak for almost 2 years and it recently started shutting
off as soon as i turned on. i thought it was the batter problem too but
it definately isnt. Im really sad about it! who knows how to fix it?
I bought a Kodak V550 and itl was fine for 5 photos before the screen was showing photos in the negative, then the camera froze completely. After recharging the camera it now will not turn on or off and the lense will not retract. I contacted the store I bought it from, he tried a new battery and it worked again for approx 7 photos then froze again. The man in the store said it would take a month to have it repaired as he didn't have a replacement.
i also have the same problem..i'm so sad about it. i changed the battery but didn't work..i tried to charge it then turn it on,,the lense would retract then close again..
I just wanted to add I have the same problem with my EasyShare DX7440. I had it two years, and switch two fully charged batteries. It just happened suddenly, I turn it on, the screen turns on breifly, then the whole thing just shuts down. Sounds like Kodak cameras just self destruct after two years??
TENGO UNA CAMARA KODAK V 550 DIGITAL Y NO ENCUENTRO SOLUCION. DA ERROR E 45 . COMO LO SOLUCIONO , CUAL ES EL PROBLEMA QUE TIENE.GRACIAS
I have the same problem with my V550. One day the camera worked, the next day (LITERALLY) it powers on and off within seconds. The camera is in pristine condition, no impact damages no water, it's like new. My father has the same camera and the same thing happened to him. His persistance and insistance had Kodak repair the camera for FREE after he pre-paid for shipping and repairs knowing the technicians would find no signs of impact or wrong doing on his part. His camera has been fine since then. I, however, am not so lucky. After over 50 minutes on the phone I am nowhere with a broken camera!
