Question about Apple AirPort Express (M9470Z/A) 802.11g/b (M9470ZA) Wireless Access Point
I'd advise doing some research before I go out and throw down $$$ on a device that you know nothing about. Seems a bit negative, however it is common sense...

I had problems with the installation also on Vista. I used my work PC (XP) to connect and flash the latest firmware. After setting up the AEBS as a new network, I was able to see the Network but still unable to print. I used WPA and TKIP for the encryption and IP_Networkname.local.9100 to get my printer to work. Printer name was Networkname.local on port 9100. I had to download printer drivers for Vista from the manufacture as the advanced features were not available with the Windows supplied USB printer driver. The light blinks amber but printing works like a champ, even pauses in the middle of manual duplexing and prompts for the reload. I've used it with both XP and Vista and it really made my day since I no longer have to lug my laptopts to the other room to print.
It is not impossible to use this device with Vista as many post claim, but you might have a configuration challenge ahead of you without the latest firmware and printer drivers. I believe I ran the Airport Express and Bonjour utilities in XP SP2 compatibility mode.

I had the same problem, 1st uninstall itunes and the apple express software, do a regclean. 2nd place the cd in the drive but do not install yet. open the cd to the install.exe file right click for Properties and check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" Windows XP (servive Pack 2). Then install, after goto the program folder were the "Admin.exe" and do the same thing to run in XP mode. Then run "AirPort Admin Utility" on the bottom left hand corner you should see "Other" box enter the IP address and password. of the airport express, This works for me. Plus if you have a second pc with windows xp that will work as well network wireless as long as the apple express is wired to the router you can program it. I'm trying to do a WDS wireless network from my d-link 624 to two airports. I can get it to see the D_link 624 but I can't log to the wireless network and surf from other pc with xp wireless?

Vista has very little drivers for equipment sad but true. However in your case you can use Airport Extream. However here is what an apple tech had to say: If you are a Vista user and you don't have access to a Mac, you will not be able to get this working. Apple hasn't yet stirred itself to release a version of Airport Express Assistant that works with Windows Vista - you can't set it up via Windows' own networking software and nor does the Airport Admin Utility work under Vista. It installs and you can run it, but it returns error messages if you try and connect to the Airport Express. I had to use a Mac to get it working, though once it's set up as a client to your existing wireless network, you can stream from iTunes on a Vista PC to the Airport Express. The documentation is very poor, too, with this: I had to do extensive Googling first to track down the fact that I couldn't set it up with Vista and second to identify the device's IP address and default password. Having said that, it is a breeze to set up via a Mac and works like a dream witih Vista once it's up and running. But don't bother if you have Vista until Apple updates the software. Was this review helpful to you?

I have bought this horrid device which appeared pretty useful in the ads, unfortunately it did not work with Vista. I feel like suing apple for this, they should clearly mention in their promos that it is not vista compatible. Do hell with airport express and the Apple. Hate it.

Im running Windows vista and have just installed Airport Express. I've also encountered the problem that the Airport Setup Assistant doesn't install if you're running Vista. All I'm trying to do is connect my PC to my stereo via the airport. I've tried re-installing but still no luck. I've also run the install exe in XP SP2 compatability and the Admin exe in XP SP2 compatability. I've tried connecting through the admin exe entering 10.0.1.1 as the add and public as password but Im getting error -6753. I'm having to enter the IP add and password after clicking other as the re-scan isn't picking up the unit and hence I'm unable to access the Configure button.
same probl here.
is there a solution for a non mac user?
