Question about Sharp 32F640 32" TV

1 Answer

Got wet My 3 yr old son was caught spraying windex in the livingroom, the tv was on but I thought nothing of it, about 30 min later, the tv started changing channels on its on. It would go up several channels then stop on one for a min and so on and so on. The remote control would not turn the tv off and neither would the off switch on the set.So I am assuming that my son sprayed the tv (which my son said he did spray the tv)but he pointed to the speaker holes and the input holes and said that was where he sprayed) My husband said to turn off the power switch and I did. That did turn off the tv, however when I turned the power switch back on and turned the on button on the tv, nothing happens? Will the tv dry out and if so what do we need to do for this to work, or has the tv had it? Thank you very much.

Thanks. That could very well have been what happened. We took the tv out of the entertainment center and put another in last night, this morning I just tried to turn it on to see and it came back on so Im not sure if it dried out and is good now, or if it will mess up again but for the meanwhile it is working. If it goes crazy again I will get the board cleaned and buttons replaced. Thank you for your help! :)

Most likely he sprayed the screen, and the fluid dripped down onto the board where the pushbuttons are. The pushbuttons them became contaminated and shorted out inside. Usually, the damage done will not be reversed by drying the set out. He should not feel bad, though, because we see adults doing that all the time. The TV has not "had it", since it is quite easy to correct. The board should be cleaned and any defective pushbuttons replaced by a qualified tech.

Son sprayed cleaner on tv.

I have not a clue what to tell you, but doubt the cleaner is the cause of this. In any case the TV is so old you will not be able to get parts.

My Pioneer VSX 820K will not turn on. Son sprayed some windex on it when it was on and it shut down.

More than likely the windex fried a channel or two. If you have a DVM you can find out wich chanel or channels is bad by checking each output transistor for each channel until you find the one that is shorted.

Have a 2002 ion that sometimes wont start but if left for 10 mins will start up.

I have 2003 Saturn Ion. I had this problem over and over 2006 - 2008. IT IS THE IGNITION SWITCH. IT IS DEFECTIVE IN ALL ION'S.The replacement may be defective also, not sure. Mine was driving fine, went ino store for 1 hr came out stone cold dead, would not start and key **** in. Had to have towed to Saturn. They said it was battery and replaced battery.I said this did not make sense. 6 yr battery only 3 yr old , never weak start, never run down, in summer? It happened again 2 mo later. They tried to say battery , I said no. They checked battery. It was fine. Could not find problem. They did total electrical check. It happened again 1 mo later. drove into feed store. Went in came out it happened again. I got jump from someone 30 min later and started right up. 2 wks later same, I got jump 20 min later started. 1 mo late same. Sometimes it would just start up. Took to another Saturn place. They said Ignition switch, saturn was having big problem with this on Ions. Got changed and no problems for 1 yr. I was talking to repesentative at Saturn Headquarters. I told the problem. They said the ignition switch has an electrical component, or it is hooked to electrical component. THEY SAID IF I HAD JUST SAT THERE 20 MIN WITH KEY OFF, THE COMPUTER CHIP FOR IT WOULD HAVE RESET ITSELF WHEN IT COOLED DOWN AND I COULD HAVE STARTED IT EACH TIME. IT WAS BEST TO GET REPLACED AND NOT WORRY, BUT THIS WILL HELP YOU IN A STRESSFUL PINCH, UNTIL YOU CAN GET THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED. NOTE: Go to Auto Zone , O 'Reilleys, Pep Boys etc, get a repair manuel , CHILTON $ 23- $ 25 , for your year , make, model car. CHILTON IS MUCH BETTER THAN HAYES MANUEL. It is wonderful and many things you can do yourself.

Makes hissing sound, then immediately clicks to "clean"

you need to turn it off and remove plates, put in kitchen sink and spray with windex and dry with paper towels, now clean the bottom of the three plates too.
before you reinstall the plates look down inside you will see three thin lines of metal, make sure there is no lint or dust on them, reinstall and let set for five min. to allow any windex that might still be wet then turn on low for a couple of min.then go to medium

Liquid leaked into tv

Hi Tracy,
I have the sweetest grandchildren and tey are always willing to help also, so we have to love the children for all their wonderful help. ( NOT !!! ...lol ) But lets not send your son to the adoption web sight just yet. I'll start by letting you know ( in a sigh of releif for you ) that your tv is not damaged forever, although, when the windex drys, you will probably see a dirt stain on the screen, since the windex probably did it's job and cleaned the dirt off, unfortunatly the residue is between the screens. You have 2 layer of plastic screens for your TV. One is a lexan shield and the other is a riffled substance plastic. To seperate the two of them, you need to take the front of the TV off, normally by removing screws from the inside of the TV ( this can be a tricky job and I really suggest you have a pro do it if you haven't worked on TV's in the past ). If you do it, be extra careful not to break the screen or sheild after removing as they can get a bit pricey. When you take them out, they will seperate ( one lays on top of the other, no real trick to them ) and then just grab your windex ( the remains of the bottle that your son left you ) and clean them like you would glass. Of course after you clean the screens, replace them in the oppisite proceedure of taking them apart and wella, all is ok again and junior remians a loving and helpful son. smiling. I hope this helped. Nice day.
