I have been playing my 360 for months now with no problems until just the other day the drawer didnt want to open more than about a half an inch unless i layed it on its side and than it would open fine but when i put a disk in it started making a noise almost like the disc was scraping but it didnt scratch the disc and it wouldnt load it and now the drawer wont stay closed at all. i removed the drive to see if there was an obvious problem with it but it looked like it was in perfectly good condition

Hi, it sounds like you have the" open tray" error that is very common with the 360s. How you fix this is you take your DVD drive apart and look at the laser assembly, there are 2 screws on the side of it, look at the one on the left. Turn this screw to the left a VERY little bit at a time and keep checking it every time you turn it until it stops the open tray error.
I had a problem like this a few days ago, my 360 had problems reading my disks. I ended up opening it up and cleaning the laser in the dvd drive. After that it played fine, if that doesn't work you might need a new dvd drive.
Well I just recently purchased an XBOX 360 about a month ago form
gamestation(used). It was giving me disc read errors every time iplayed
it, but i opened it up and cleaned my TOSHIBA drive and wiped
everything down with a cotton bud, and then lubed up all of the parts which
needed to be.
Your having a dvd drive problem Im taking a guess but i have fixed many like this before. What you need to do is take your xbox360 apart. You can find a video how to do this on our site http://www.xboxmodshop.com next you want to remove your dvd drive take out the four screws on the bottom and remove the top cover. Now make sure your looking at the spindle where the game rest in the middle of your spindle you will normally find two magnets, but in your case your probably wont. Yours are probably stuck to the top of your drive cover. You need to remove them and superglue or epoxy them back in the middle of your spindle. After completely dry put everything back together it should play normal.I recommend a inter-cooler so this wont happen again.
That is how the X-Box works. It doesn't stay open, because if it stood open and it accidently dropped or anything, the drawer would break, and that would cause alot of problems with Microsoft. Thanks for using Fixya!
