Troubleshooting My window unit is 3 years old. It is spitting water out of the vents and sounds like it is shaving ice. Could my coils be freezing up, and what do I need to do to resolve this problem? I have turned it off for over 8 hours, but after it runs for less than one hour it starts up spitting water and making noise again.

First I would check your air conditioner to see if it is tilted backwards it should drain to the back (outside) . also check to see if the evaporator tray is clear of debris. if it is pluged up water may back up.. let me know and if this don't help we can go deeper..Thanks

Have haier HWRO5XCM air conditioner. Outside temp is 75 degrees and I have set on 76. Freezes up and spits ices and water. Help

Clean indoor filter , and coils in unit (you must remove from window and remove top from unit to expose coil, After cleaning coils prop up unit so it slopes to rear and spray back and forth at bottom of front coil until drain is clear . Never turn unit upside down , and do not get water inside of fan motor . Also clean evaporator blower wheel . With unit clean and drained out place in direct sunlight for at least 2 hours to completely dry before replacing top and reinstalling in window , or just drain out , reinstall and leave unit unplugged for at least 24 hours to dry before testing . If unit is clean and still icing , check to see if thermostat works (place object in front of unit to direct cold air from top of unit onto thermostat temperature sensor and compressor should cycle off, if not replace thermostat . If unit still ices you will need a pro to repair sealed system of unit or simply buy a new one .
Thanks,
Alex

Throws or sprays lots of water out the front on a daily basis which is soaking the carpet and furniture. The window unit is over ten years old and has been running non-stop for at least 5 years.

Hi,
It sounds like that unit is getting a bit low on charge and is freezing up a bit....maybe even needs a good cleaning of the indoor coil... that would make it freeze also.

Freezr coil, vent and back panel of kenmore iced and not cooling

HI, Your auto defrost cycle has gone bad. Remove the rear inside freezer panel and check continuity on the defrost heater and bi-metal switch. The bi-metal has to be cold when testing it. If both parts show continuity, you will need to change the defrost timer.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Fidgerdare electrtolux air conditioner

have you brought it down for a general cleaning on the 3 year period? if not then that's what it needs now.

the coil is freezing up because of dirt accumulation on the coil. even there is a filter, still with in 3 years it could have accumulated to decrease the airflow thru the coil and freeze it up.

tnx 4 using fixya,
