Make sure the evaporator and condenser are clean. If so, is the blower motor still running when the compressor shuts off?

I have a fedders window ac unit where the compressor will turn on sometimes and others will not. When I shut it down and restart later it usually will run for a while. What is wrong?

You could have dirty coils on the outside of the unit. You can clean them with compressed air, water hose or get a can of a/c coil cleaner. If you get coil cleaner you will still need the hose.

When turned on, the unit sounds like it will start then turns off within a minute.

Presently according to my information there is no recalls for Fedders products at this time for this model type.

Fedders Window AC

You may have thermostat problems. If the blower and compresssor kicks on, that indicates their ok. If you have a two wire thermostat, you can tie those wires together to see if the unit will operate. BE SURE TO DISCONNECT POWER.
