Is a compaq presario 5000/8000 quick restore cd compatible with a compaq presario 2175us laptop?

I guess not. Drivers for compaq presario 5000/8000, are not the same as those for a compaq presario 2175us laptop. Now, actually that "notebook" looks to me rather outdated. You won't lose anything by trying. Worst case, format hard drive and install Windows XP SP3. Try to search internet for missing drivers.

How-To Find Missing Windows Drivers!
1. If your laptop or desktop has internet access, use Device Doctor to scan and locate any missing drivers. Device doctor will provide a download link to any missing drivers.

2. If you have no internet access, you will need to goto your laptop or desktop manufacturer's website and search for drivers for your specific model of laptop (model number is usually located on the bottom of the laptop or on the side of the desktop case).

3. Be wary of other driver scanner programs, the vast majority are malware/spyware. Device Doctor is a program I use everyday at work.

I think I am way in over my head..I have an Acer E1-571-6650 laptop that has a new hard drive but it is missing four "other devices" drivers..they are Base system, Base System, Network Controller, an

The Base System device is the chipset so once you get that that will go away ... the rest are self explanatory.

Based on your model number this should work:

That is for Windows 7 - 64 bit, if you have a different version simply click OS and select the version of Windows you have installed.

I live in Cebu City, Philippines, and am looking to buy a bigger than usual hard drive for my laptop. Do you know the telephone number for Western Digital company or its distributors in the...

You do not need to use Western Digital hard drives, there are quite a few hard drive manufacturers.
Check the maximum hard drive size your laptop can support (check the laptop's specs.).
Check the type of hard disk your laptop uses eg ATA or SATA.
Then I suggest you Google search for a hard drive on the Internet or go to your friendly computer shop to purchase a hard drive for your laptop.
You can use the old hard drive and put it into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive (ie. portable hard drive).

Need a new hard drive

Hi Ekhubbar,

First of all, if your laptop is still under warranty and suffering from a hardware fault, it may be worth checking with Toshiba in the first instance so see if they can replace it. If you can provide any details about why you require a new hard drive, I may be able to assist further, otherwise if you are just looking for a replacement of the same size and spec, see below.

The product spec of your system quote that the M45-S165 comes with :

"80GB (5400 RPM) Enhanced IDE (ATA-6) hard disk drive; 8.0mm height; user removable"

Doing a quick search reveals a price at around $60.00 (for a drive made by Toshiba). However if you are going for something cheap and cheerful from egg, you may want to check out the $35 drive. It is the same size in storage, and spec wise it will access your data faster.

Here is a link to the specific product in question (on newegg.com):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16822144102

So it would be cheap to buy a seperate laptop hard drive, but do make sure that you have a professional replace it for you.

Hope this helps,
David

#1508 Bad directory buffer signature

Hi, if this is a fairly new installed XP you're probably better off: repartitioning, reformat and reinstall WinXP but this will delete all contents of the hard drive. If however there are a good number of critical/important files you would want to save/copy, there are two (2) ways of going about saving/copying those files but both involve access to a working computer. (1) remove your Travelstar 5K100 from the laptop and using a 44 to 40 pin adaptor, connect it to the working pc which should recognize it as another hd and therefore you can copy your files to that pc. There are many sites that explains how to do this. You can try Google search or http://search.techrepublic.com.com/search/laptop+hard+drive.html. (2) another method is to boot and run your OS from your cd. While this does not involve physically removing your laptop's hard disk, it might be a bit challenging preparing the bootable CD with an OS. The procedure is better explained at http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/. This will run your laptop although a bit slow however, you can access the hd and save it to a thumbdrive or if you have a lan to another computer. Please let me know if this works ok with you. Good luck and regards.
