Question about KitchenAid 24 in. KUDM01TJ - Multiple Color Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Won't start after repair

I recently replaced the tub gasket and the heating element in this KUDM01TJWH1 Kitchenaid dishwasher with parts I bought online. The new heating element required that I replace the control board, which I did. It worked fine for one load, but quit in the middle of the rinse cycle of the second load. No lights on the panel, unresponsive to the switch panel. There's power to the dishwasher, and pushing the door switch doesn't start it. I'm an electronic technician and have a full set of tools and a test meter, so I can try pretty much anything to get it fixed. I'm out $100 for new parts and shipping, and I'd like to get it going again if I can.

The problem turned out to be the thermal fuse. It opened up during the rinse and dry portion of the second cycle I ran after replacing the control board and heating element. Along with the control board came a very cryptic information sheet indicating that the new heating element puts out more heat in air than the old one did. I'm hoping the replacement thermal fuse I ordered will solve the problem. The unit that opened up was rated to melt at 98 Degrees C, which is just a little under boiling. I'm assuming two things: 1) that the new element creates a temperature greater than 98C, and 2) that Kitchenaid (now Whirlpool), who substituted the heating element and changed the control board, know this and will be replacing the thermal fuse with one designed to work in the dishwasher with the new heating element installed. Otherwise, I'm going to have to disconnect the heating element, or wire a diode in series with it to reduce the temperature.

SUGGEST YOU PULL OUT PLUG THEN OPEN DOOR UNSCREW TOP SECTION OF PANEL TO GAIN ACCESS TO DOOR LIMIT. CAREFULLY BRIDGE BOTH WIRES OUT AND ALSO WITH WATER SWITCHED OFF, SWITCH POWER BACK ON. IF NOTHING STILL, CHECK POWER TO DOOR LIMIT. IF THERE IS POWER, EITHER THERE IS A LOOSE WIRING CONNECTION ON THE BOARD OR IT HAS AGAIN GONE FAULTY.

I have a Westinghouse SB915SJ*00 dishwasher. It runs right through a cycle but does not heat. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello

The majority of dishwashers are not connected to hot water from the mains but heat up the water internally using the heating element, located in the tub of the dishwasher, controlled by a thermostat. When the dishwasher has a fault with heating, the program will run but not complete and will show an error code on the display panel. Dishes won't be cleaned properly and the detergent won't dissolve.

If your dishwasher does bring in hot water externally from the mains to check the water is warm and there are no problems with the inlet. If the dishwasher heats internally then it is most likely a faulty heating element or thermostat. A fault like this will usually require a replacement part and a repair, but you can check the heating element with a voltmeter to ensure that it is the cause of the problem before calling out for a service engineer.

My Kitchenaid dishwasher is not cleaning the dishes. Had a local repair man looked at today. He tried cleaning, but still not working. He said it is a motor problem that will cost $400 to replace.

How to fix leaking heating element? Water appears to be dripping from where one end of the element passes through the tub. Is there a gasket that needs replaced? Thank you D. Brush

Switch off the m/c. Remove the heater and clean the gasket seating area. Replace the gasket. If new gasket not available, clean the old gasket free from oil.

Apply rubber solution on both the ends metal parts. Allow it to dry. Now attach the heater along with gasket. Use after few hours.
