Question about Nokia N770 INTERNET TABLET LINUX OS (0276107) Network Terminal
I have a N770 with a defective touch screen. I have been told that it is a hardware problem and that it would require the screen being replaced. However, I haven't found any places selling replacement screens or offering replacing them as service. Former is actually preferred, as my budget for is quite small and I would not mind learning more about electronics.
Have you actually contacted Nokia (www.nokia.com)? Nokia offer international service and can even supply parts with instructions if pushed, although they will give you the impression that you have to buy service. Keep in mind that since the launch of the N800 some web retailers have dropped the price of N770's in stock to an average of arround £129, given that a replacement LCD will cost something close to this (or possibly more) anyway coupled with the fact that the N770 is still a very strong performer you may want to consider a new N770 instead. The N770 really is an outstanding product and it's custom micro-Linux build using matchbox UI amply shows just how poor Windows mobile actually is. It would be a shame to lose the device, however if you can't find a replacement screen or repair service perhaps this is a good excuse to upgrade to the N800. ;-)
