It does not turn on, remains in stand by mode.

I recently bought a PS3 from US for use in India. After making all the connections, when i turn on the main switch the red light on PS3 switches on indicatin it is in the stand by mode. And then on pressing the on/off button on PS3 the light should turn green, but it does not turn on green and continues to remain in stand by mode(that is light remains to red.) The power supply of US is 120V 60hz but in India the power supply is 230V 50hz. Therefore we are using a step down transformer of configuration 230/120V 50hz. Please recommend the possible cause and solution. Thanks n regards Monto

I cannot be COMPLETELY sure of this so be careful, but doesn't the PS3's board cater for both types of power supply and therefore a step down transformer is not needed? Check the labels on it just in case, but be wary I CANNOT be certain of this...
