Thank you Andrew, I noticed that the fuel bubble had too much air in it. The fuel tank was 3/4 full. I removed the outer cover for a closer look pumped the fuel bubble and everything has gone back to normal. I appreciate your comments. Regards Steve

These are great little engines and do not suffer with too many things, first to look at clogged spark arrester in the muffler out let, remove and lean, check the fuel hoses have not become brittle and have cracked and are leaking, failing that check the ht leed where it runs close to the cylinder, is it arcing out? i have replaced a few ignition units, so you can never rule this out.

SOURCE: Muculloch brush cutter wont start. No spark.

If you have correctly diagnosed the problem as no spark, you will need to replace the ignition module. Unfortunately McCulloch dealers and McCulloch parts are very hard to find these days. If yoou do not have a dealer in yoour are who has the part you need, contact southern supply company at 205-833-2525 or email them at [email protected] and I feel sure Jason or someone there can help you.

SOURCE: i 've had this brush

Hi John, this is probably a carburetor adjust issue, but it could be something else like an air leak, plugged air or fuel filters or lines. A possibility could also be venting of the fuel tank. This is usually done by a one way valve in the gas cap. The carburetor itself could be causing this problem, and might need cleaning or a carb kit. Try adjusting the mixture screws that could be the problem. When adjusting needle screws turn 1/8 of a turn at a time. Start by adjusting the low (idle) speed mixture screw 1/8 turn out (counterclockwise) to add more fuel to the mixture (make sure you remember the start position). Start your brush cutter and see what happens. If you have to, do that procedure 4 or 5 times. If not any better, return the screw to it's starting position. You might try turning the screw in (clockwise) a few times and see what happens. For your info (the manufacturers suggest to adjust both the high and low mixture screws 1 turn out from a lightly seated position as a starting point to adjust carb. This is very often just right, but if adjustment is necessary it is usually not by much). If the low speed screw adjust has no results, try the same with the high speed screw. I hope this helps a little bit. Get back to me if you have any questions. All the best and good luck.

FS 450 Stihl Backfires when trying to start

As a diagnostic see if it runs on starter fluid. Drain all the fuel so no chance it floods. Then remove air filter. Open throttle and spray a short burst of fluid down carb throat. Release throttle and promptly start. It should run for a couple of seconds and stop.

If it doesnt run on staryer fluid make sure the plug and cylinder is dry (not flooded). If its not flooded and wont run on starter fluid then either poor spark, timing, or poor compression (crankcase leak).

Car starts but cuts out on tickover just put on new battery

if you mean the vehicle starts and cuts out immediately then it is an immobilizer problem. a diagnostic test will pinpoint the problem as a.fault will be stored in the memory. fault normally a poor connection at ignition pick up ring or at instrument cluster connectors. [immobilizer control unit built into cluster]. unplugging and reconnecting normally sorts out this fault. poor connection due to very fine pin connectors.

Engine light on, sounds and feels like using lumpy petrol.

i have found 2 areas that cause issues such as you are reporting.
one is poor voltage. check the connection at the starter motor between the alternator and the battery.
the other and perhaps more likely is a wet ECU.

the ecu box is under the windshield on the passenger side, access under the hood. this are can get wet ad corrode an ECU.

remove the ecu, take the bottom plate off and clean any corri=oded and wet areas with alcohol and a tooth brush..be gentle.
i would look for a way of mounting the ecu so that it doesn't lay on a flat surface that gets wet...

Kawasaki GT 550 - erratic tickover

Put a carby kit through it and clean, inspect and blow all ports through, check intake rubbers for any leaks, (pin holes can change air fuel ratio) Especially check for obstructions in your idle/bypass jet, do the kit first so you know its right, then tune your idle mix until steady.
