Question about Mitsubishi WS-55809 55" Rear Projection Television

Wavy picture I have the same problem someone else reported. Here is the info from their post: "When I turn on TV the picture is so wavy it is unviewable. After about 10 minutes it would gradually clear and was fine. Now the waviness never goes away completely. TV is approx. 1.5 years old. This problem started about 5 months ago. Solution #1posted on Jun 28, 2006 By unclejed Rank: Master Rating: 78.15%, 119 votes uncle... indicated that his solution for 65H82 65 in. Rear... Problem is valid for all Projection... this is caused by a bad convergence module, and there are probably some dried out electrolytic caps in the circuit as well. i have one in the shop right now that came in with the same problem. if you have it serviced, make sure they replace all of the convergence modules (there are usually 2, but sometimes 3 of them), because if one went bad the other(s) is likely to go out soon as well." My TV is a Mitsubishi HD 1080 (WS-55809) How much are the convergence modules? How many do I need? Can I replace these myself? -Pamelita

I 'm having the same problem with a blurry, wavy barely viewable screen. The longer the TV remains on the better the picture becomes, although its not close to what it once was. Does anyone know what the problem may be and an estimate on servicing? Mitsubishi HD 1080, WS 55809

My set is a WS55807. Set is approx 6 years old. Convergence is off. Sometimes picture is concave at top and bottom. Then it will correct self. Can I repair this myself? What is cost of convergence modules? What is reasonable repair cost for technician? William in Michigan.

Everytime I turn my t.v. on, it comes on real blurry. Then after three minutes it goes clear. Then a couple minutes later it goes blurry for thirty minutes then get clear again. What would be the problem? Would it be cheaper to buy a new t.v.?

All three screws on the Convergence Module are loose. Picture converged downward in center and is wavy. Screws will not tighten due to excessive play around screws.
(1) Is complete removal of Light Box assembly required before repairs can be made. (2) is it a requirement for electrical adjustments and calibrations mandatory?

Well unclejed, maybe you shouldnt charge someone $400 to fix a T.V. that is only worth $500 used with a part that cost $20 and an hour to install!

@unclejed ahem, what convergence module please?? the set has only one module and that is the DCU. so you have one in the shop, yes? are you sure you know what you are doing? by your description you don't and just get the real technicians out of work. do you think that is fair to rob us of work we need to make a living??

Picture size is to large

You might have it in the wrong picture size (zoom 1 or 2). Menu, picture, size ...

If this is not the case, you can go to the service menu and reduce the size of the viewing image.
Turn off TV, press mute then 182, Turn on TV and this menu appears.

I have a JVC RM-C203. I hit a button by mistake and the picture is zoomed in on by 4 times what it should be. The picture is unviewable and I can't figure out how to zoom out again. Help please!!

Hi elisepaiot!!

I am assuming you accedently changed the format/aspect ratio of the tv. Try going into the TV's menu and locating the option to change it, usally in the display section. Every TV is diffrent and since I never owned that spacific TV it is hard for me to tell you exactly how to do it. Post back with any questions and let me know how it goes.

The picture shows up as a 4 inch wavy line across the middle of the screen. what part needs replacing? It used to do this and then snap into a full picture but it doesn't anymore. Is this replaceable?

Replace capacitor [location 2455] it is a 25 volt 47 MF cap. Use a high temp cap at 105 degrees. And resolder Q7461 and Q 7463. Find someone who works electronics and they can repair using this info! You will have a TV as good as new....I promise!

You have problems with your power supply filters. I'd suggest you to change the mainfilter, that is the capacitor just after the ac rectifier and the b+ filter, that is the capacitor at the output of the smps, and then vertical filter and video filter. These are all capacitors with higher microfarad ratings, if you are not much comfortable, it's better to get some help from someone who is familiar with these. Pay attention not to reverse the polarity when changing the capacitors.

Sony KV-27V66 Tv Problem

I would have someone check the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply or deflection circuits. You can check them with an ESR meter. Any good technician should have one. I bet one or two of the caps are leaky.

Wavy Screen on Startup

I gather from your post that wavy can mean two possible things as the TV comes on, you see the picture flow like ocean waves? In this case you may have 60Hz hum modulating with the picture, this is actually unlikely these days, but I have heard it happens sometimes. The other thing it could be is light horizontal tearing. This happens when the horizontal frequency is too high or too low. You are not going to like my solution because I feel that for problems like this the set must be analyzed not just subjected to "shotgun troubleshooting", so here I go, Take the TV to a repair shop.
