TV works fine at times then randomly the menu pops up and stays on. When this happens, the remote stops functioning and the channel buttons act as they would but pressing them also causes the menu button to be pressed, the volume buttons cause a screen to be shown that displays "P:0 1.09 V:0" pressing the Volume buttons then changes the V value from 0 to 254... Dont really know what to do except to press 4 of the buttons in at the same time and itll funciton fine until the menu randomly comes up again... please help
It would seem like the menu button is sticking, because thats the one that gets 'pressed' when pressing others. Ill open it and check it out.
By the way, would you have a copy of the service manual that I can download? It would seem like the menu button is sticking, because thats the one that gets 'pressed' when pressing others. Ill open it and check it out.

Sounds like one or more of the keypad buttons are sticking - That would also cause the remote control to stop functioning. When you saw "P:0 V:0" you somehow managed to put the tv into the service menu. Pull the keyboard away from the plastic buttons and make sure nothing is in the way.

Can you use a digital camera to view your remote to see if it is sending out signals when it should not? It might have dirty buttons from food or other dirt. This can cause it to send signals even when the buttons are not being pressed.
It part of the caption functions is on.Tries find in ur tv menu, goto captioning functions like CC1,2,3 and Text 1,2,3.Turn it all off. These radom black boxes and trying typing somethings, should stop.
Is the favorite channel menu a function that is normally accessed by a button on the remote?
If so, that button on the remote might be stuck.
If this is the case, the menu may at times pop up all by itself and other buttons on the remote and on the TV's front panel may not respond at all (it had happened on my remotes more than once).
Try to clean the remote control (the housing, rubber pad with knobs, circuit board) with ethyl alcohol, when you clean the housing, you should also clean the holes through which the buttons protrude, there might be some dirt that keeps the button stuck.
It may also be a stuck button on the TV front panel, so check these too.
Also, it could be something else, i just wrote the description of a problem and the solution which to me seemed most likely.
Its probably the buttons (hopefully) you can open the tv and disconnect this control panel most of the time. Sometimes the remote (IR) signals go through this board. If the problem continues without board connected, its likely the main board = more expensive (100-300 $ part)
this is the same type of problem happening with other rca models and I know it is the EPROM CHIP but why this is failing is either because of design flaw , dirty enviroment that they were made in , to much voltage or current to the chip or too much of a draw from the chip causing it to fail . Or even a random frequency from the IR sensor or its circut I'm still investigating and testing.
leave the tv unplugged for at least 3 weeks durring this time resolder any solder that don't look good , I did this and it lasted for about 6 months(always plugged in to the wall) before it started doing it again. model # 27v412t
Resetting the TV If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:
NOTE: Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.
1.Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet. 2.Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...) 3.Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds. 4.Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV. 5.Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again. 6.Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices. 7.Turn on the TV.

I don't know if this will help your problem, but we were having similar problems with our Toshiba 32A33. None of the buttons on the TV or remote worked, the volume would go up and down uncontrollably, it wouldn't turn back on unless unplugged for several hours
Try either taping a penny very firmly over the TV/video button on the set to keep it depressed at all times, or wedging a piece of plastic in it to keep it down (Cardpsycho's solution). However you do it, keeping this button depressed solved every problem we had.
