TV works fine at times then randomly the menu pops up and stays on. When this happens, the remote stops functioning and the channel buttons act as they would but pressing them also causes the menu button to be pressed, the volume buttons cause a screen to be shown that displays "P:0 1.09 V:0" pressing the Volume buttons then changes the V value from 0 to 254... Dont really know what to do except to press 4 of the buttons in at the same time and itll funciton fine until the menu randomly comes up again... please help

Re: Buttons dont respond correctly
Sounds like one or more of the keypad buttons are sticking - That would also cause the remote control to stop functioning. When you saw "P:0 V:0" you somehow managed to put the tv into the service menu. Pull the keyboard away from the plastic buttons and make sure nothing is in the way.

Can you use a digital camera to view your remote to see if it is sending out signals when it should not? It might have dirty buttons from food or other dirt. This can cause it to send signals even when the buttons are not being pressed.
Tv still have it Closed Caption functions is on.U have the tv original remote wright?Yes.Look at ur tv remote control look for a button that said CC,push that button a couple times make sure like all CC1,2,3.. all to off.Closed Caption functions will turn off should have no more black boxes pops up onto the tv screen. Also used the tv remote control go into the tv menu go into Closed Caption funcions look for functions like Text 1,2,3... turn it all to off too.Should stop it for good,if Text also on too.If u don't have the tv original remote.Try website like Remotes.com to buy the tv original remote.
My TV 40RV525U changing channels, menus itself for few months. my son tried to stop the channel scrolling by enter weird number into the channel to stop it scrolling such as 555, 777.. later, it turn on off by itself and unable to hold on a channel ( I use antenna) I call Toshiba customer service and they ask money $25 for troubleshooting but I denied since I do not want to waste money and time.
Now, I found how to fix it myself.
In my case, something was wrong with the signal comes from the button control on the left side of the TV. ======================== What I did ======================== unplug the power cord. Remove back cover. Look into the motherboard ( biggest green at the center).
I disconnect a connector on the motherboard come from the IR board that
receive the wireless signal control ( meaning the remote is disable). I turn on the TV, press on Menu button on the TV side. Menu is still scrolling.
I turn off TV, disconnect power cord and connect the IR connector back to the motherboard. I then disconnect the nearby connector that comes from the side control buttons.
Turn on the TV by remote, press menu button on the remote to check. The menu stays.
I use electric tape to seal off the connector and let it hanging there. Close the TV back panel
I have been watching TV for 3 nights without menus/channels scrolling. NO AVAILABLE red message when watching DVD is no longer existed.
Ur tv Closed Captioning is still on like CC 1,2,3 or Text 1,2,3 is on.Look in ur remote control for a button said CC press it make all CC 1,2,3 to all off.Go into memu find closed caption function Text 1,2,3 turn it to all off. These steps, will stop random squares boxes lettering showing up ur tv any channels.
Is the favorite channel menu a function that is normally accessed by a button on the remote?
If so, that button on the remote might be stuck.
If this is the case, the menu may at times pop up all by itself and other buttons on the remote and on the TV's front panel may not respond at all (it had happened on my remotes more than once).
Try to clean the remote control (the housing, rubber pad with knobs, circuit board) with ethyl alcohol, when you clean the housing, you should also clean the holes through which the buttons protrude, there might be some dirt that keeps the button stuck.
It may also be a stuck button on the TV front panel, so check these too.
Also, it could be something else, i just wrote the description of a problem and the solution which to me seemed most likely.
One of two things. Most likely one of the buttons on the Tv is bad causing eratic functions. Igf so you might be able to disconnect the whole button-board. Could be the maion board in which case it's time to shop for a new TV.
Its probably the buttons (hopefully) you can open the tv and disconnect this control panel most of the time. Sometimes the remote (IR) signals go through this board. If the problem continues without board connected, its likely the main board = more expensive (100-300 $ part)
