I have some type of coated wire coming through the holes in the tub of my washer. What type of wire is this and will it cause a problem.
The washer also makes quite a bit of noise and comes unbalanced often.

There can be several causes, the drum off balance would cause the shavings during spin cycle , balance could be one of the the balancing mechanism failed and not running could be the balance sensor shutting down the spin cycle.
You should start by checking the balance shocks .

Hi dingoleo,
A typical cause of garment's being torn is not enough water for the amount of items or too many items vs. amount of water...aka overloading. First thing to look for aside from that is insure you have full tub of water and make sure the water isn't siphoning out your drain during the wash cycle. Make sure the drain hose is secure in a standpipe at a minumum of usually 36"-40" hieght...( unless the unit is elevated via a pedestal or other means, the drain has to be adjusted accordingly ) without the hose being pushed down inside the standpipe too far. Just make sure the drain hose exit isn't below the water level of the washer. Also do not cover over the hole where the drain enter's the standpipe, many people do this to keep the drain from popping out, but it causes a siphone effect.
Check out those thing's, it's a start. Let me know and if necessary we'll move forward.
Than's for coming to "fixya" for assistance. Good luck.

I have an Atlantis myself. There can be several problems. Did you check that the fill hoses in the back are not leaking? Are they tight? There are hoses inside the washer and a pump near the front. I replaced my pump last year and I,m getting ready to replace the thrust bearing assembly (spin issues). Does the washer leak with every load? make sure water is not splashing over the tub when filling. The front panel comes off if you can and leave off and watch to see where water is coming from.
I have a Maytag Atlantis top load washer which leaks in the rear right hand corner under the discharge hose, how do I take the machine apart to get to the problem.
Check the door seal for tears and the drain boot from tub to drain boot for anything that might have put a hole in like a piece of metal from an under wire bra which front loads will spin so fast that the wires come out of the bras.
#1 issue have had with those as a repairman is the pump.the spot welds break and the pump rubs metal to metal also the belt can wear and flap.you can get somthing in the inner tub in those little holes[ie..nail]and when the tub moves it drags.to look at pump, belt motor pulley.tilt washer back .rest on wall and you can inspect all from there.God bless, tom
I have a Maytag Atlantis MAV6257AWW. I need to replace the transmission. So I removed all four screws from the inner tub but I couldnt get the inner tub pull out, it's stuck.
From what I read on here, the seal nut doesn't have to be remove in order to remove the inner tub.
I tried every, I even hammer the shaft down from the inside of the tub but still no luck. Can someone help, thanks.
