My 'Dell P780 17" CRT Monitor(3 yrs old)' fads away gradually and goes blank completely for about 1 minute and comes back. This is happening frequently. I cleaned up the nVIDIA GeForce Graphics Video card (w/ fan) that gets hot quickly. Is there anything to clean inside the monitor. Is this due to Monitor or Video Card or both?. Please advise.
That sounds like a monitor issue, not a video card. Gradual fading means components within the monitor are wearing out. However, I strongly advice against attempting repairs. CRT monitors hold a strong electrical charge. People have been injured and even killed by attempting to work on them without proper tools and training. A 17" CRT monitor is too cheap to be worth the risk (you can often get them used... I got mine for $20 at Goodwill).

I have a similar problem with my P780 manufactured in Aug 2000. Picture fades and comes back in within a few seconds, does not do it all the time, very intermittant problem. I know how to discharge the CRT and solder(even have a high voltage probe), if anyone knows the component that is failing, please post it. It still has a fine picture most of the time.
