Have the same problem with a Sharp SX51J7 TV. Don't have manual, or original remote either (using universal remote). Any clues on how to find the language settings, to change back to English??

We bought ours from the military BX in England. The ident plate on the back states C29-F100. We brought it with us to Okinawa, then 3 years later to Colorado. Someone, somehow changed the language. Even the menus are in a eastern european language.

According to Hitachi themselves, there is no such set with model number C29-F100. The closest one they have on file is the C29-F800. Perhaps your set is an over-seas set, originally sold in Japan? The original remote has a MENU button surrounded by 4 "arrow" buttons - arrow up, down, left and right. For the C29-F800, using the original remote, press the MENU button 4 times or the SETUP button once. There should be 4 choices on that page and the first one, the one on top, is LANGUAGE. Highlight the first one using the "arrow down" (also labeled P-) button and select the language ENGLISH using the left or right arrow buttons. Exit the menu by pressing MENU 3 more times or SETUP once. I believe I can download the owner's manual for the C29-F800 and send it to you if you need it.

You can change the OSD language (that the camcorder displays the menu screen/options and messages) by:
1. Press the MENU button - the menu screen appears 2. Press the < (left) or > (right) button to select "Settings" - the settings menu appears 3. Press the ^ (up) or v (down) button to select "Language" and then press the OK button 4. Press the ^ (up) or v (down) button to select the desired OSD language (English), and then press the OK button 5. When you're done, exit by pressing the MENU button and all the menu options & messages will be refreshed in the selected (English) language.

In order to change your language back to English or whichever language you prefer. Please go to Settings (which is the icon with 4 bars & 2 bars are moving up & down)....select Settings to go to submenu, then scroll down until you see FM xxx, then the line above FM xxx should be your language menu. The language is in Arabic writing.

I just went through this agony for 3 days and found this on another blog for reseting the TV. It totally worked and got me to the language set up. Go to the front panel of the panel. Manually turn the TV OFF. Via the Front Panel push the INPUT (Function) Button in & Hold. Now use the power button on the front of the TV & turn ON the TV. I then used the remote to arrow up to English.
