Question about Creative Labs Zen MicroPhoto MP3 Player
The unit's microdrive is very fragile and easily get damaged by a shock, so buy a new one of the other brand such as an ipod.
Ipod don't use a microdrive but a flash memory drive.

Mine froze about 4 weeks after I had mine. I used the following advice from some blog to resolve my issue. Because I couldn't get the firmware from creative to recognize the micro connecting to my PC. So for my situation I first had to roll my version of windows media player from version 11 to version 10 and then I was able to load the creative firmware downloaded to my desktop from the creative website onto the micro and then I was able to get the micro to work. Make sure you choose the correct firmware to upgrade your micro especially if you're using the playforsure subscription mp3 service. Here is what I saw on another website. Please keep in mind I didn't follow the blog's instructions word for word I just based how I fixed my micro off of their recommendation. I used microsoft instructions to findout how to rollback my version 11 media player to version 10 instead of uninstalling it and I already had system restore ability on my Gateway to put the media player back to version 11 after I upgraded the micro firmware so I could get my subscription service functioning again on the micro. I tried to attach microsoft's rollback instructions but this website must limit the response space. These definitely worked for me. I had to work on this all day though. Searching for answers and trying things before working it out. Please note I did not do the last program removal in the microsoft instructions because the micro firmware upgrade issue was resolved without doing all of them and I needed to change media player back to version 11 immediately after the micro started functioning for my subscription service to work on my micro again. Sorry for the book but this was very frustrating. I'm not a pc illiterate either which added to the frustration. Hope this helps.
The following is the information I saw somewhere that I used to fix my issue.
HERE WE GO
get rid of media player 11 (click add/remove programs in control panel, tick show updates on the top of the add/remove window.)Remove media player 11 and media player runtime and rollback to media player 9.Remove all the .Net frameworks as well.Reboot.
now in START....RUN....type regedit.when regedit opens Go to edit and then click find.type in the search creative.when it finds one creative file right click and remove it then go back to the search and do next and it will find another file.delete it as well.then do the same and delete ie there are alot of creative registry entries in there.basically thissll take round half an hour but delete everything related to creative in the registry.
once youve done that reboot
Install media player 10....download media player 10 from microsoft.re boot.
now run the firmware 1.20.08 then 2.10.03 for zen xtra users.
for others then youve got your individualised firmwares for your individualised products i guess.
run 1.20.08 and leav it (itll say player not recognised),then run 2.10.03 the presto u can upgrade your firmware.
I hope this works for all but all i can say is that creative suck for not making life easier for us.
I still think that iPod are more advanced with there customer service and updates.
Creative have prooved to be a bunch of amatures.
BTW you can then update to media player 11 and you can sync up.
GOOD LUCK
The end of the information I used.
Sorry but this website limited the amount of information I could post on it so you will need to go to Microsoft.com to find out how to rollback your pc's media player to get the firmware hopefully already downloaded to your desktop to start the upgrade for your micro from your operating system.
Again hope this information helps you resolve your issue. Creative seems to have had alot of them regarding this product and should be ashamed to not have their firmware function with media player version 11 especially if it is supposed to be play for sure compatible.
