I just bought this tv used from a friend and he told me before I bought it that the manual switches (on/off, channel up/down, and volume up down) stopped working but the remote control operated the tv fine. Within two weeks I have lost control with the remote. I can turn the tv on and change channels, volume and settings for a brief period of time then I loose total control. The tv seems to freeze up. The red indicator light on the tv (that under normal operation only blinks when I push a button on the remote) stays on and wont go off. I also have a brand new universal remote that does the same thing; it works for a while then the tv stops responding. The tv also looses sound then about ten minutes later the sound comes back. I have to unplug the tv and let it sit for a few hours before I can turn it back on but then have to repeat the process all over again. Also, when the tv is not responding, I can turn my vcr or dvd on and can hear the video playing, but the tv just shows a blurry screen. I have noticed the inside has collected ALOT of dust. Any advice, suggestions, help, support will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I have programmed TWO Philips universal remotes for my Symphonic TV and the remote will work for a few days, then the TV stops responding. It will not accept any code.I have programmed TWO Philips universal remotes for my Symphonic TV and the remote will work for a few days, then the TV stops responding. It will not accept any code.
I have a great 50" 50P8341 television from Philips I've had for about 5 years now. However, for the past 7-9 months, this television has developed the nasty habit of deciding to start 'ignoring' remote control AND front panel inputs for 20 seconds up to 90 seconds! Press volume UP button--- and ... 30 seconds later the volume will increase by 2 notches. But don't you DARE hold it down, or in 1 minute you will be BLASTED OUT OF THE ROOM as the volume goes up through the roof and you are unable to get it to go down again for another minute or two... This same situation occurs with all front panel inputs (EVEN the power button!!) as well as all remote control inputs.
ANY idea on what is going on here would be useful.
SO far: I've noticed this happens when a) the tv is used for LONG periods of time (kids watching most of the afternoon on Saturday into parents watching Saturday evening... b) When the VCR is unplugged from Side input and Playstation II is plugged in, (in fact, for a few days, we couldn't even GET the side input to WORK)
The only (unreliable) means of helping a little has been to unplug the TV and give it a rest for 2-8 minutes and then try again. though this is not a sure fix-- even after an hour's rest, it may not work correctly after being unplugged, so we are at a loss... yet sometimes after unplugging and immmediately plugging back in--it works.
Go figure...

Try a new Web search for your brand. Try looking for a Diagnostic trouble code of 6-1 and see if you can pull up parts of a Service manual using that search routine. Try Phillips trouble codes, Phillips Diagnostic Codes, or your model# in the search.
It sounds like it went into a default Diagnostic mode. If you have a Remote with extra functions it may get you into the Diagnostic menu.
here is a link to the phillips universal remote page that has all the codes for any brand tv including phillips and it will explain how to program the remote try the codes for phillips one of the codes should work. http://www.universal-remote.net/philipsmagnavox.html
dont waiste your money problem main or logic board or if shure power supply go radio shack and get one with specifications match voltage,ampers,and polarity
Typically you need to consider the surround system as the central point for sound distribution (and in newer receivers, the distribution point for video signal as well). So you need to think of your TV and Satellite as sound sources and connect them to the IN side of your surround sound system. From the back of your TV then, look for the Audio OUT (commonly Red for right and White (or black) for Left. Connect these to the IN on the back of the surround system. Likewise for your satellite box. Then make sure you select the appropriate source on the surround system. If the system supports the video signal, you can route that as well. Beware that you'll need some sort of simulation (provided by the Phillips unit) to upconvert stereo to surround ... check the manual online. If you post model numbers for the Phillips and satellite units, we might be able to direct you more specifically (provided we can find manuals online)
It sounds like the 3 "GUNS" are not aligned.
One the controls at the bottom, left hand side You will see an arrow pointing to the first 2 on the left.
That will allow you to scroll down the list of options until you see....CONVERGANCE!
make the red gun center by using the up/down arrows on right. Then add the next 2 until you see a white X or cross.
Thats it!

have the coolant (glycol) in the CRT's....not as expensive as buying a new set...and sounds like it should be good as new if thats the only problem you have with it.
Go to this link;

and a short way down under "Product Details" there is a link to the product manual
page 7 and 8 of the manual (page 9 and 10 of the pdf file) should tell you what you need to know.
Please post again if you still have trouble;
Hope it helps :)
