That sound to me like yall have some carbon buildup on the igniter. On this stove the igniter does 2 jobs. It lights the burner and verifies back to the control that Houston we has ignition. If junk is built up on that ignitor then she won't be sending verification of ignition back to the control. That white residue needs to be removed. NOTE: I don't have your model number I am going by what you describe that this stove is a Direct spark ignition model. If you have a normal ignitor it probably is weak and not drawing 3.5 amps to open the valve. Post a model number (bottom drawer frame) More Here
next time send the brand name and model number so i can look up your machine,if it's a gas stove most likely it will be a bad ignitor, even if the ignitor glows it still could be bad,if the flame doesn't ignite and the ignitor is glowing change it out,if it isn't glowing pull out the ignitor and check it with a meter, common problem.
It is rather unusual for an oven these days to have a standing pilot, (and thus the Thermo Couple)
Are you sure yours doesn't have a glowing ignitor to light the gas? Usually there is a separate ignitor and burner for broil, and a separate one for the Main oven burner- Can you see the ignitor glow on one or the other burners?
If the ignitor is broken-- you can not get the burner to light
Here is an observation you can make thru the oven door:
When you turn the oven on to BROIL-- do you see the bright glow of the ignitor? (It is almost like a light bulb was in there-- buy the burner!)
When you start the oven (on BAKE) setting-- do you see a similar bright glowing light? (Tho down lower, near the Lower Over Burner) If you see the bright light-- then the ignitor is apparently heating up-- If not-- then, YES-- you are likely right-- Ignitors are fairly common failure items-- and they can obviously stop the burner from lighting-
You can raise the top lid of the stove to light the pilot lights for the top burners. The oven is controlled by a electric glowbar ignitor. Make sure the cord is plugged into a electrical outlet. If it is and the oven does not work the glowbar ignitor must be replaced.
You have to identify the thermocouple by the flame. Some units run sparks constantly to insure that tha flame stays lit. If you see the thermocouple bulb by the flame it is bad and needs replaced (he may have bypassed it also let me know) http://www.vikingrange.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m10110_viking_primer_2005.pdf
It would be helpful if you have a multi meter. Sorry you are having trouble with the repair man. I hope I can talk you through this but if he has made a mess it could be 10 times more work for you. [email protected]
Hi, If this model has a standing pilot, use a lighter and put the flame to the back center next to the burner assembly. Most newer models have electric ignitors now. It is fastened to the burner assmbly on the laft side.
If this an electric ignitor, turn the oven on and see if the ignitor glows. These ignitors are a very common problem and will probavly need replaced.
Please let me know if I can assist youu further.
First look to see if the ignitor is coming on. Most common problem is the ignitor is weak or just bad. When the power is applied to the ignitor it glows and builds up resistance to open the gas valve then it lights. If the ignitor is weak or bad it will not build up enough resistance for gas to come into the burner. One sign of this would be a "woosh" sound when it trys to light. If the ignitor is coming on but not lighting it is most likely the ignitor is bad. Should have a full glow. Also, if the ignitor looks whiteish in color this is a sign of it going bad. You can compare to the broil ignitor to be sure. If the ignitor doesn't come on at all will need to see if you have power to the ignitor. Let me know what you find and let's solve it before you rate the solution.
