Ice maker works fine, delivery chute is clear, auger assembly spins freely when I remove the ice bucket, engagement prong at end of auger looks good - - - - but the auger motor doesn't engage even though the door to the delivery chute opens. I suppose the auger motor is bad. How can I get to it to check and or replace?
My ice maker quit dispensing too but the water worked and makes plenty of ice.
I read several fixes with auger motor and the red herring was that I had been working on the house and the circuit was off to the refrigerator. So I thought it might have been melted ice sticking the motor. Turns out that while it was off someone must have wanted ice really bad and pushed really hard or just happen to be time for the plastic retainers that hold the micro switch in place to break. I have a ED5PHEXRT00 Whirlpool and the control bracket is what I have to replace. You have to pry the front cover off from the bottom where there are some screwdriver slots, pop off to expose the controls and bracket. Micro switch was still good. Just ordered the part for 14 dollars plus shipping and tax.
Better you call service
Hello - Do you hear the auger motor running when calling for ice? If you do not, the dispenser may be jammed or the refrigerator has a faulty auger motor. I suggest try clearing any ice that is blocking the ice chute, removing any frozen ice or obstructions, verifying that the water valve or fill tube is not frozen. If any proves to be ineffective contact a professional to move forward accurately.
