Niles keeps that information proprietary, they only let dealers have it. IF you disassemble the unit to get to the main board, you can look for a blown fuse, check fuses with the meter, check the outputs from the transformer with the meter, Other than that you are going to need an audio signal generator and oscilloscope and an ESR meter.

Hi, im thinking of getting a new subwoofer but there's some subs with speaker cones facing from the front, back, side,or the bottom what's the difference between these different positions ?

Bling factor, as long as they are all wired in phase. Downward and side fired subs are usually the "all-in-one" type with the amp built into the sub enclosure. I would stay away from those (the type with an integrated amp) because most aren't exactly good performers. I added pictures of what I was calling "bling" which is really only good for show, unless you like having more space taken up by the box and sub.

How do I repair 12" sub coils?

you can buy coils online ebay subwooferparts.com and fixmyspeaker.com. or look on youtube for videos of repair for your subwoofer. to take apart the sub use heat like a small torch lighter or low flame on a propane torch. use it on the frame of the subwoofer by/under the surround and spider but not all subs will be able to be taken apart whole. take the sub apart then use a calipers to measure the old coil so you know you buy the right size because it matters in fractions of mm to work or fit. good luck

Sub woofer produces a very loud low tone

This model has a high failure rate with the power supply board. Typically, power resistors fail, which in turn burns out the big capacitors.

I have not heard of transformers failing though, so it shouldn't be too much to repair it.

Here are the schematics for the unit: Upper board and Lower board

JBL Creature -- speakers only work when directly connected

Check that you are fitting the connectors into the subwoofer correctly.
Each plug is keyed (the plug is shaped so that it will only fit into the correct socket).
It is very easy to think you have plugged them in when in reality they are just 'located' in the holes.

Jamo Sub300. No power. No lights

Well it would void the warrantee, but you can take the back panel off and the power supply will only have two leads (3 if grounded) in from the plug, and out to the crossover. It sounds as if you are correct that the power supply is bad.

Infinity ps-10 powers up but no boom

Try hooking up a different signal input to your powered sub, another stereo or even a dvd players audio output to the sub will work for a test. Just make sure the subs gain is down before starting. If it still not producing sound, the subwoofers amplifier is bad. I hope this helps.
