Does not find GPS signal in Spain

On a recent trip to Spain my TomTom Go700 only picked up GPS from airport for the rest of holiday it said "waiting for GPS signal". Tried reset twice. On return to UK I have no problems. Last used it in Spain in 2009 and it worked OK.

It may help if you regularly get the latest satellite positions (for the next 7 days) - QuickGPSfix data (via TomTom HOME).

SOURCE: Tomtom not finding gps satellites

i had exactly the same problem, i dont really know how i solved it but first i thought it could be a memory problem slowing the gps signel so i reset the tom tom to factory settings then downloaded the updates from the tom tom home program of corce i lost all my destinations but i didnt want to do a back up just incase one of the updates had a virus or something so if u want to keep them i sugest u write them down first.and then i got a safty pin and pressed the reset button underneath where the memory card goes twice the second time i held it down for about 10 seconds then i looked for updates again from tom tom home. after that in tom tom home there is an option where u can operate your tom tom on your pc so i tryed that and i put in a destination on the pc and clicked on demo tour so i watched the route first it was a bit slow but started to speed up a little. after it had finished i un plugged the sat nav and went for a walk with it around the house soon as i went out side and set a destination it found 6 gps signels, make sure yhe battery is charged to at least half. well i hope anyone who follows my steps gets the same results, thought i lost 200 quid cos i have had it over two years and its only guarenteed for 12 months. well good luck.

SOURCE: MY TOMTOM ONE IS WAITING FOR A VALID GPS SIGNAL I

Turn on your tt and let it bootup. After it has booted up go to the map screen. On the bottom right where the bars are for satellite reception. Tap the bars this will take you to the screen telling you the device code etc. On the upper far right where the battery icon is tap the screen again. This will take you to a screen showing the satellites. If you see grey bars on the graph just wait awhile. Sometimes when your tt has not been turned on for awhile or you have turned it on after traveling a few miles it may take up to 30 minutes to get a lock.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: waiting for valid gps signal

Go to TomTom Home on your computer and do a update for your unit. In the update list you should see a GPS quick fix which helps the TomTom's aquire a signal faster. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: waiting for valid gps signal

The GPS needs at least 3 satellite signals to operate. You are probably in a bad reception area. Move around a bit and try again until you see a signal array of 3 or more!

My tomtom go 700 is about 5 years old and i need to update the maps how do i start?

1.First of all check that TOMTOM actually still support this product and only perform updates using a wired network connection - WIFI can drop out and corrupt the downloads
2.Then see if they actually are supplying a new map for the 700
3.Without activating TOMTOM Home, plug your GO700 into your PC and let it recognise the 'drive assignment'
4.Take a FULL backup of all files on the TOMTOM 2Gb disk on your PC NOTE: this is totally separate and additional to any backups you might make with TOMTOM Home.
5.Disconnect your TOMTOM
6.Start your TOMTOM Home software and perform an update check from the 'help' drop down menu
7.Once you have this updated connect your TOMTOM
8.Perform a full backup again with the TOMTOM Home software
9.Search using TOMTOM Home for any GO700 application software updates and install these (NOTE - ONLY INSTALL THE APPLICATION UPDATES)
10.Reboot your GO700 to make sure that it works with any application updates
11.Re-connect your TOMTOM and this time perform a search for map updates to purchase and follow the instructions.
12.It is very likely that TOMTOM Home will say that there is not enough space on the drive to install the new map, it will follow an automatic process to remove your old map and then install the new one that you have purchased on lne from TOMTOM.
13. If Home has installed your new map correctly, when you log off and disconnect your GO700 it should then initialise - the long time bar rebuidling the maps and then start up normally. It can be necessary to reset your GO700 using the rest button under the base.

GOOD LUCK, This is currently a very messy process but one which seems to work for recovering the GO700 in the event of a failure, TOMTOM have been hopeless for me in getting any maps installed on a GO700, so this is my way of getting round their lousy support service.

My tomtom cant find any satellites and keeps saying waiting on valid gps signal......

check the port is set to 8
not sure if your model has GPS search wher it finds the port and vbaude automativcally, if it does use it and see if that fixes it if not
your battery is too low
you have a damaged SIIRF chip and that is expensive to repair

TOMTOM/how to delite address in favorite?

If you mean delete addresses in favorite then

tap 'Manage favourites' to delete any favourite locations that are no longer needed. You can also rename them, if you wish. Use Arrow-head up and Arrow-head down to scroll up and down the list and pick the one you want to change or delete.

and i am not sure which TomTom Go you have (maps preloaded only go700 and go910 no memory card slot), you can download manual

go to tomtom website ----> support scroll down at the right hand side click Find downloads

GO700

STEP 1

Connect your TomTom to your computer via USB and open up your Windows Explorer and go to the drive. (It will be listed as TOMTOM (E) or some other drive letter).

Copy the Yellow Folders one by one to your PC. Ideally, save all the folders under a new folder that you name.

You may find that the folder ttntools and gns may not be copied. This is o.k. if they aren't.

STEP 2

Format your Tomtom via MY Computer.

STEP 3

Copy the Yellow Folders from the backup you made in STEP 1 back to the TomTom.

STEP 4

Open TomTom Home
Click on Upate Now.
Install the latest update onto your TomTom.
Once installed, switch your TomTom off, then disconnect if from the PC.

Thats it. From now on, make a full backup using TomTom Home prior to any updates.

Also note, that copying all the files will take some time.
