We have had the Dell monitor for almost 4 years and this morning it started showing a dark grey line in the middle of the screen that goes about 3/4 way up the page from the bottom.
Any suggestions?

Re:
Are you able to test this monitor on another pc?
This will allow us to eliminate or identify as problem with the graphics card.
With the monitor itself, these lines could indicate screen damage - has the screen been dropped or accidentally hit with a pen etc.. ?

disconnect all the cables except the power cable and then turn the monitor on you would see a test screen if it still happens your monitor is faulty and better buy a new one as repairing is usually expensive .
also check you warenty its usually 3 years
Try connecting an external monitor to the Dell Inspiron 9300 and see if the vertical line is also present on the monitor. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor also displays the vertical line, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop. Not sure if the Compaq Presario has an external monitor plug, but if it does the above procedure can be applied to that one as well.
